Welspun Corp Sees ₹1,433-Crore Block Deal As Promoter, CEO Trim Stake
Welspun Corp promoters and CEO sell ₹1,433 crore stake as Capital Group funds buy shares through block deal.

Welspun Corp saw a ₹1,433-crore block deal on 26 August, with promoter-group entity Welspun Investments and Commercials and CEO Vipul Mathur selling 63 lakh shares. Three Capital Group funds bought 42.3 lakh shares worth nearly ₹963 crore in the transaction.

Shares worth ₹1,433 crore in Welspun Corp changed hands through a block deal on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Wednesday, 26 August. The transaction involved promoter-group entity Welspun Investments and Commercials and the company's Managing Director and CEO Vipul Mathur.

The sellers offloaded a combined 63 lakh shares, equivalent to around 2.4% of Welspun Corp's equity. The shares changed hands at an average price of ₹2,275.30 apiece, according to National Stock Exchange (NSE) data.

The transaction price was higher than the ₹2,250 per share price indicated when the proposed sale was reported a day earlier.

Entities linked to Capital Group were among the biggest buyers in the block transaction.

Three funds associated with the investment group together purchased 42.3 lakh Welspun Corp shares. Their combined purchases in the deal represent around 1.64% of the company's equity.

Euro Pacific Growth Fund made the largest purchase. It acquired 29.5 lakh shares, or about 1.12% of Welspun Corp, in a transaction worth ₹670.3 crore.

New World Fund bought another 8.4 lakh shares for ₹191.51 crore. The purchase represents around 0.32% of the company's equity.

Capital Group Europacific Growth Trust picked up 4.4 lakh shares, equivalent to about 0.2% of the company, for ₹100.9 crore.

The three funds together bought shares worth nearly ₹963 crore. Details of buyers for the remaining 20.7 lakh shares were not available from the transaction data.

The Welspun Corp block deal was a secondary share sale. As a result, the money raised from the transaction will go to Welspun Investments and Commercials and Vipul Mathur, rather than Welspun Corp.

The transaction comes amid a busy year for block and bulk deals in the Indian equity market.

Founders, promoters and private equity investors have sold shares worth ₹3.63 lakh crore through 9,616 block and bulk deals so far in 2026, according to Prime Database. With four months still left in the year, secondary share sales could cross the ₹4-lakh-crore mark.

Domestic mutual funds and insurance companies have absorbed a part of this supply, even as foreign portfolio investors have remained cautious about Indian equities.

Welspun Corp shares closed at ₹2,306.70 on the NSE on Wednesday, down 1.65% from the previous session.
