NTPC Shares Rose Nearly 4% After Q2 FY27 Profit Climbed 14%; Higher Generation Lifted Revenue, While Margins Came Under Pressure

NTPC shares gained nearly 4% after standalone Q2 FY27 net profit rose 14.3% to ₹5,320 crore. Power generation increased 11%, while the company declared a ₹3 interim dividend.
NTPC shares rose nearly 4% during the trading session on 2 November after the state-run power producer reported a 14.3% increase in standalone net profit for the September quarter. Higher electricity generation and better utilisation of its coal-based power plants helped the company post stronger revenue.
The stock gained after the results, with investors also tracking the company's interim dividend announcement.
NTPC generated 92.4 billion units (BU) of electricity during Q2 FY27, an increase of 11% from the corresponding quarter last year. Its coal plant load factor (PLF), which measures how much of a plant's available capacity is being used, improved to 73.53% from 66.01% a year earlier.
At 11:21 AM, NTPC’s share price on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) stood at ₹324.80 apiece, up 2.70% from its previous session’s closing.
NTPC Q2 Results: Revenue Rose 16.8%, Net Profit Increased 14.3%
NTPC's standalone revenue for the September quarter increased 16.8% year on year to ₹45,752 crore, compared with ₹39,165 crore in Q2 FY26. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose 8.7% to ₹10,891 crore from ₹10,018 crore. Net profit came in at ₹5,320 crore, against ₹4,653 crore in the year-ago period, marking a 14.3% increase.
The profit and revenue figures were both above the estimates. Analysts had expected net profit of ₹5,031 crore and revenue of ₹43,192 crore.
There was a weaker side to the results, though. EBITDA growth lagged behind revenue growth, and the operating margin narrowed to 24% from 26% a year ago. EBITDA also fell short of the poll estimate of ₹12,393 crore, while the expected margin was 29%.
NTPC Declares ₹3 Interim Dividend; 6 November As Record Date

The company has set 6 November 2026 as the record date. Shareholders whose names appear in the company's records on this date will be eligible for the dividend, subject to the applicable rules.
