LT Foods, KRBL Shares Jump
LT Foods and KRBL shares rally as basmati rice exports recover and trading volumes surge.

LT Foods and KRBL shares surged on heavy trading volumes, with LT Foods hitting a fresh 52-week high, as KRBL reported resilient Q1 FY 2026-27 results despite basmati export disruptions from West Asia tensions.

Shares of rice exporters LT Foods and KRBL rose sharply on Monday, August 24, with the two stocks gaining up to 13% in intra-day trade despite weakness in the broader market. The stocks also saw a sharp jump in trading volumes.

LT Foods shares climbed 13% to hit a fresh 52-week high of Rs 482.85 on the BSE. The stock crossed its previous high of Rs 479.80, recorded on September 19, 2025. At around 1:48 pm, LT Foods was trading at Rs 460.85, up 7.78%.

KRBL shares rose as much as 9% to Rs 443.50. The stock was trading at Rs 439.20, up 7.92%, around 1:49 pm.

Trading activity in both stocks was much higher than usual. LT Foods saw its average volume rise more than 10 times, with around 1.31 crore shares changing hands across the NSE and BSE. KRBL recorded a three-fold rise in average volume, with around 32 lakh shares traded on the two exchanges.

The gains come as the market looks at the recovery in basmati rice exports and the outlook for the two companies' businesses after a difficult quarter for shipments to West Asia.

LT Foods is the company behind the Daawat and Royal brands and sells basmati rice, organic food and ready-to-eat and ready-to-cook products. It has a presence in more than 80 countries, including the US, Europe and other international markets.

The company said during its Q1 earnings call that demand remains healthy and that it expects conditions to improve gradually as its business mix changes.

LT Foods is also expanding its business in the US. Its ready-to-heat facility there is expected to become operational in the current quarter, adding to its manufacturing capacity in the market.

The company's basmati business remains an important part of its operations, while branded and packaged food products are becoming a larger part of its overall business.

KRBL, which owns the India Gate brand, also saw strong buying on Monday. The company makes and sells basmati and non-basmati rice and also has businesses producing rice bran oil, furfural and de-oiled cakes.

KRBL's June 2026 quarter was affected by disruptions in West Asia, which hit a significant part of India's basmati rice export trade. India's basmati exports fell to 1.5 million tonnes from 1.7 million tonnes a year earlier.

However, basmati realisations increased 20% year-on-year and 13% from the previous quarter. The company expects export volumes to improve from Q2 FY27 as shipping conditions in West Asia stabilise and has retained its guidance for meaningful export growth in FY27.

For both LT Foods and KRBL, a recovery in overseas shipments could therefore support volumes in the coming quarters. The two companies also have large branded businesses, giving them exposure to demand for packaged and premium rice in both domestic and international markets.

Monday's rally was notable because it came on a weak market. The Sensex was down around 0.17% during the session, while both rice stocks recorded strong gains.
