Hindustan Copper shares rose as much as 3.48% to ₹551.80 apiece on the BSE on Wednesday, August 26, as the government opened its Offer For Sale (OFS) for retail investors.

The stock's gains moderated later in the morning. At 11:17 am, Hindustan Copper was trading 1.70% higher at ₹541.70.

The retail bidding follows strong demand from non-retail investors on the first day of the OFS. The offer was subscribed 3.41 times on Tuesday, with bids received for 8.91 crore shares, against the 2.61 crore shares offered under the base issue.

Following the strong response, the government exercised the entire green shoe option, taking the potential stake sale to 6%, compared with the initial offer of 3%.

The OFS floor price has been fixed at ₹514 per share. At the latest market price, Hindustan Copper was trading around 5.4% above the floor price.

The retail portion opened for bidding on Wednesday. Investors bidding for shares worth up to ₹2 lakh are categorised as retail investors.

10% of the base issue has been reserved for retail investors, while an additional 25,000 shares have been earmarked for eligible employees.

The company had 12.78 lakh retail shareholders as of June, according to its latest shareholding pattern. Together, they held 17.79% of Hindustan Copper.

Hindustan Copper's stock has been in focus as the government moves ahead with the stake sale. Wednesday's early gains came despite the OFS floor price being below the prevailing market price, with the stock continuing to trade above ₹514 during the morning session.
