Stock Market Holiday August 26
Indian markets stay open on August 26, while settlement and currency trading remain closed.

NSE and BSE will remain open on August 26 despite the Eid-e-Milad holiday, with investors facing changes to the settlement schedule.

The Indian stock market will remain open for trading on Wednesday, August 26, even though the day is a settlement holiday on account of Eid-e-Milad.

The NSE and BSE will conduct trading as usual. However, clearing and settlement operations will remain closed, including the pay-in and payout of stocks and funds.

This will affect the timing of when investors receive funds or securities from their trades. Intraday profits made in the equity segment on Tuesday, August 25, will not be reflected in account balances on August 26.

Shares bought on August 25 and August 26 can be sold from August 27, when settlement activity resumes.

The currency markets will remain closed on Wednesday. There will be no disruption to normal equity trading on the NSE and BSE, with investors able to place and execute trades during the regular market session.

A settlement holiday does not shut the stock exchanges. Investors can still buy and sell shares, but the transfer of securities and funds linked to trades will not take place on the holiday.

For investors who are planning to use sale proceeds to make fresh purchases, the delayed settlement is worth keeping in mind. Funds from eligible trades will be credited once the settlement process resumes.

The same applies to securities purchased around the holiday. Shares bought on August 25 and August 26 will become available for sale from August 27.

The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will remain open on Wednesday, August 26.

Both the morning and evening trading sessions will operate as scheduled. Commodity traders will therefore be able to trade on MCX despite the settlement holiday in the equity market and the closure of currency markets.

The next stock market holiday is on September 14 for Ganesh Chaturthi.

Another trading holiday falls on November 8 for Diwali Laxmi Pujan. The date is a Sunday. The exchanges will conduct Muhurat Trading on the occasion, with the timings to be announced separately through a circular.

So, while investors will be able to trade in equities on August 26, the settlement of transactions will remain suspended for the day.
