HDFC Bank Shares Slip Near 52-Week Low Amid Selling Pressure

HDFC Bank shares came under selling pressure on Tuesday, trading near their 52-week low as the stock continued to underperform the broader Nifty 50 index amid persistent selling pressure throughout the year. Read ahead to know more.
HDFC Bank shares fell 0.56% to ₹724.95 on Tuesday, 18 August, as selling pressure remained higher than buying activity. Sell-side orders accounted for 56.38% of the total traded quantity, while buy orders stood at 43.62%.
The stock opened at ₹726.30 and rose to ₹729 before slipping to an intraday low of ₹724.60. The low was just above its 52-week low of ₹722, recorded on 12 August.
At 10:50 AM on 19 August, the HDFC Bank share price was down 1.08% at ₹715.21.

HDFC Bank shares have remained under pressure so far in 2026. The stock has fallen 26.86% year-to-date and 27.64% over the past year.
The decline is sharper than that of the Nifty 50, which has fallen 7.36% year-to-date and 2.63% over the past year.
Over the past three years, HDFC shares have declined 8.86%, while the Nifty 50 has gained 25.44%. Trading volume stood at 31.78 lakh shares, with a traded value of ₹230.82 crore. Deliverable quantity accounted for 80.48% of the total traded volume.
Nifty Bank Under Pressure; ICICI Bank Also Trades Lower
The broader Nifty Bank index also remained under pressure on 18 August, closing at 57,289.50, down 208.30 points or 0.36%. The index moved between 57,280.20 and 57,584.70 during the session.
The weakness continued in the next session. On 19 August at 10:50 AM, Nifty Bank was trading at 57,066.10, down 196.30 points or 0.34%.
The pressure was also visible in other major private sector banks. At 10:55 AM, ICICI Bank shares fell 0.59% to ₹1,405.50.
Bank Nifty has remained in an eight-week consolidation range of 56,500 to 58,700. The 57,000 level continues to act as a near-term support for the index.
