HDFC Bank MD & CEO Announcement Today
RBI is set to decide HDFC Bank’s next MD & CEO, with Anup Bagchi and Kaizad Bharucha under consideration.

HDFC Bank is awaiting the RBI’s decision on its next MD & CEO, with Anup Bagchi and Kaizad Bharucha among the reported candidates for the top post.

HDFC Bank CEO announcement is expected soon, with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) likely to decide on the bank’s next Managing Director and CEO after HDFC Bank submitted two names for the top post. The two reported candidates are Anup Bagchi, MD & CEO of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, and Kaizad Bharucha, Deputy Managing Director of HDFC Bank. The appointment will determine the successor to Sashidhar Jagdishan, whose term ends on October 26, 2026.

HDFC Bank’s board submitted two candidates to the RBI in order of preference for a three-year term earlier this month. The lender did not disclose the names in its regulatory filing, but reports have subsequently identified Bagchi and Bharucha as the two candidates under consideration. The RBI’s approval is required before HDFC Bank can formally announce its new MD & CEO.

The succession process has gained attention as Jagdishan prepares to step down after deciding not to seek another term. He informed the bank’s board on August 29 that he would not seek reappointment, with his current tenure ending on October 26.

Anup Bagchi is the external candidate being considered for HDFC Bank’s top executive position. He has been MD & CEO of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance since 2023 and previously held senior positions at ICICI Bank, including Executive Director. He has more than three decades of experience across the ICICI Group.

The RBI has reportedly sought feedback on Bagchi’s candidature from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) and ICICI Bank CEO Sandeep Bakhshi. The feedback process is linked to Bagchi’s move from mainstream banking to the insurance business over the past three years.

Kaizad Bharucha is the internal candidate in the HDFC Bank CEO succession process. He joined HDFC Bank in 1995, became a whole-time director in 2014 and was appointed Deputy Managing Director in 2023. His current responsibilities span several businesses, including retail assets, mortgages, corporate banking, emerging corporates, business banking and rural banking.

Bharucha’s candidature also has a regulatory consideration. Reports have said HDFC Bank has sought a relaxation of the applicable tenure rules, as Bharucha would reach the 15-year limit for continuous tenure as a whole-time director, MD or CEO in June 2029.

The RBI’s decision is being closely watched because HDFC Bank has a limited window to complete the leadership transition before Jagdishan’s term expires. Reports on the succession process have indicated that the regulator could take a decision within days, although no official appointment has been announced yet.

Alongside the CEO succession, HDFC Bank has proposed changes to its senior leadership structure. The bank has proposed the appointment of Jimmy Tata as a whole-time director, designated as executive director, for three years, subject to RBI approval. It has also proposed the reappointment of V Srinivasa Rangan as a whole-time director for one year from November 23, 2026.

For now, Anup Bagchi and Kaizad Bharucha remain the two reported names in the HDFC Bank CEO selection process, while the final appointment is subject to RBI approval and HDFC Bank’s official announcement.

This is a developing story and will be updated soon.
