Dr Reddy’s Shares Rise 2% After Takeda’s Qdenga India Deal

Dr Reddy’s shares rose over 2% after the company signed a deal with Takeda to distribute Qdenga, the first dengue vaccine approved in India. The vaccine is expected to be available in the country in the first half of 2027.
Dr Reddy’s Laboratories shares rose more than 2% on Friday after the company announced a distribution agreement with Japan-based Takeda Pharmaceutical for its Qdenga dengue vaccine in India.
The pharma stock was among the top gainers on the Nifty during the session.
Under the agreement, Dr Reddy’s will promote and distribute Qdenga in India. The vaccine is expected to be available in the country in the first half of 2027.
As of 11:16 AM on Friday, Dr Reddy’s share price stood at ₹1,189.80 at the National Stock Exchange (NSE), up 1.3% from its previous day’s closing.
Qdenga Gets Approval For Children And Adults
India’s drug regulator approved Qdenga for use in both children and adults earlier this year. The approval makes it the first dengue vaccine cleared for use in India.
Qdenga is given in two 0.5 ml doses, with a three-month gap between the doses. It can be administered regardless of whether a person has previously had dengue, meaning pre-vaccination screening for earlier infection is not required.
Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection and has become a growing public health concern in several countries.
According to the World Health Organization, 2024 saw a record 14.4 million dengue cases and 11,201 deaths globally. India reported 232,425 cases and 233 deaths during the year.
Dr Reddy’s To Handle Private-Market Distribution
Dr Reddy’s said the agreement with Takeda will help make Qdenga available to eligible individuals through the private market once the vaccine is launched in India.
M.V. Ramana, CEO of Global Generics at Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, said the company expects the partnership to help introduce the country’s first approved dengue vaccine.
Takeda said it is also looking at ways to expand access to dengue vaccination in India. The company referred to a recent Parliamentary Committee on Health recommendation to consider including dengue vaccination in the Universal Immunisation Programme.
For now, the agreement between the two companies covers promotion and distribution in the private market. Qdenga is expected to reach Indian patients in the first half of 2027.
