Bharat Dynamics shares gained nearly 2% in Thursday’s intraday trade after the defence company announced an ₹810.79 crore order from the Ministry of Defence. The stock moved against a weak broader market as investors reacted to the contract win.

On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Bharat Dynamics' share price rose to ₹1,181.50, up 1.7% from its previous close of ₹1,161. At around 11:50 AM, the stock was trading 1.64% higher at ₹1,180.

Despite Thursday’s recovery, the stock has remained under pressure this year. Bharat Dynamics shares have fallen around 20% so far in 2026, even as the Nifty India Defence index has posted gains during the same period. Over the past month, the stock has declined nearly 14%.

The longer-term picture, however, has been different. NSE data shows that Bharat Dynamics has gained around 134% in three years and 511% in five years, making it a multibagger stock over these periods.

In an exchange filing, Bharat Dynamics said it had signed a contract with the Ministry of Defence for the supply of Satellite Smart Anti-Airfield Weapons (SAT-SAAW) and associated equipment for the Indian Air Force.

The Bharat Dynamics defence order, worth ₹810.79 crore, falls under the Buy (Indian – Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category. The contract was signed in New Delhi on 23 September 2026 in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.

The order adds to Bharat Dynamics’ order book at a time when the company is operating in a competitive defence market. Higher spending on research and development and increasing competition could put some pressure on margins in the near term, while execution remains an important factor for the company.

Bharat Dynamics shares have moved closer to their March low of ₹1,095 after declining for several weeks.

The stock has seen some recovery from the recent lows, with Thursday’s order announcement adding to the positive momentum.

From a technical perspective, ₹1,085 is now a key level on the chart, given its proximity to the recent low.

On the upside, ₹1,265 and ₹1,320 are levels to watch, aligning with the stock’s 50-day and 200-day moving averages.
