Ather Energy Shares: ₹13,780 Crore Worth Of Equity Set To Unlock As 7.66 Crore Shares Become Tradable
Ather Energy sees 7.66 crore shares worth ₹13,780 crore become eligible for trading following its maiden quarterly profit.

Ather Energy is approaching a significant share-trading milestone. On November 5, 2026, 7.66 crore shares will become eligible for trading. That represents 21% of its outstanding equity. The announcement arrives alongside another milestone. The electric two-wheeler manufacturer has posted its maiden quarterly net profit, backed by strong revenue growth and a positive operating showing.

Ather Energy shares are in focus ahead of 5 November, when the shareholder lock-in period for a significant portion of the company's equity comes to an end. According to the available research, 7.66 crore shares will become eligible for trading, accounting for 21% of the company's outstanding equity.

The shares are subject to a lock-in period of around 18 months or longer. Their release comes after a strong rally in the company's stock, which has gained in six of the last seven trading sessions following its September-quarter results.

However, the expiry does not mean shareholders will necessarily sell their holdings. It simply makes the shares eligible for trading in the open market.

Ather Energy shares touched a fresh 52-week high of ₹1,799 on 3 November 2026. At 12:45 pm, the stock was trading at ₹1,788.70, up 0.79% on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

The stock has maintained an impressive upward trajectory across multiple periods. A 6.89% gain over one week was accompanied by a 27.26% rise over one month.

Its broader performance paints an even stronger picture. Returns stood at 142.30% year to date and 158.71% over the past year. The stock entered the market on 6 May 2025. Its IPO was priced at ₹321.

The September 2026 quarter ended with promoters holding 42% of Ather Energy. Public shareholders owned the balance, at 58%.

The public shareholding included institutional investors, mutual funds and retail shareholders.

  • Mutual funds: Held an 18.06% stake, with SBI Mutual Fund, Axis Mutual Fund, Motilal Oswal, HSBC Mutual Fund, Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund and Edelweiss Trusteeships among the shareholders.

  • India Japan Fund: Held a 6.07% stake.

  • Retail shareholders: Nearly 3.4 lakh small retail investors held an 8.96% stake.

  • Kamath Associates: Held a 1.09% stake.

  • Nksquared: Held a 1.07% stake.

Ather Energy's September-quarter results marked a significant improvement in its financial performance. The company reported its first-ever quarterly net profit, compared with a substantial loss in the corresponding period last year.

Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA) also turned positive during the quarter, compared with an EBITDA loss in the year-ago period.

The return to quarterly profitability, alongside strong revenue growth, provides the backdrop to the upcoming shareholder lock-in expiry. However, the number of shares becoming eligible for trading should not be confused with the number of shares that will actually enter the market.
