Adani Green Energy became the first Indian company to cross 20 GW of operational renewable capacity. It added a record 5,051 MW in FY26 while advancing its battery storage expansion plans.

Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) on Wednesday said it has crossed 20 gigawatts (GW) of operational renewable energy capacity, becoming the first clean energy company in India to achieve the milestone through greenfield project development.

The company said it now generates more than 52 billion units of clean electricity every year. According to AGEL, this accounts for nearly 3% of India's annual electricity consumption. The output is enough to power New York City for a year or meet the combined electricity demand of Mumbai and New Delhi.

The company achieved the milestone within a decade of commissioning its first renewable energy project at Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu, in 2016. At 12:44 pm, Adani Green Energy shares were up 2.73% on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

AGEL said it added 5,051 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity during FY26. It described this as the highest annual renewable capacity addition by any company outside China. The company said the latest expansion makes it India's largest and fastest greenfield renewable energy capacity. developer.

Commenting on the achievement, Sagar Adani, Executive Director of Adani Green Energy Ltd, said crossing the 20 GW mark reflects the company's long-term execution strategy and disciplined project delivery.

The company's operational portfolio includes around:

  • 14.2 GW of solar power capacity.

  • 2.7 GW of wind power capacity.

  • 3.3 GW of wind-solar hybrid capacity.

AGEL also said it has commissioned 3.55 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of battery energy storage systems (BESS). According to the company, this is the world's largest battery storage deployment outside China and among the fastest completed globally.

The company said battery storage will play a larger role as renewable energy contributes a bigger share of India's electricity mix.
