Healthcare Stocks Attract ₹15,800 Crore FPI Inflows Since July
FPIs return to healthcare stocks with ₹15,800 crore buying since July.

Foreign portfolio investors have turned net buyers in healthcare stocks for two-and-a-half months. They have invested ₹15,800 crore in the sector between July and 15 September 2026.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have returned to healthcare stocks after a long period of selling. The sector attracted ₹15,800 crore between July and the first half of September 2026.

The buying marks a change in FPI flows after healthcare recorded a ₹40,160 crore outflow between April 2025 and June 2026.

Healthcare received ₹7,755 crore in FPI inflows in July, followed by another ₹5,931 crore in August. In the first half of September, investors added ₹2,114 crore, taking the total to ₹15,800 crore.

The September inflow was the highest among all sectors during the period. According to Prime Database analysis, May 2026 was the only month during the previous 14-month outflow period when healthcare saw positive FPI flows, at just ₹183 crore.

Analysts pointed to resilient domestic demand, steady pharmaceutical earnings and the defensive nature of healthcare as some of the factors behind the renewed buying.

Other factors include improving growth prospects across pharmaceuticals, hospitals and diagnostics, along with newer opportunities in contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) and GLP-1-related businesses.

The Nifty Healthcare index gained 1% between 1 July and 15 September 2026 and was up 15% year to date.

The index had also gained 18% between April 2025 and June 2026 even though the sector saw sustained FPI outflows during that period. Recent data showed that only three of the 20 stocks in the sector declined during this phase, while the rest gained, with the strongest performer rising as much as 147%.
