Bajaj Life Insurance announced the launch of its Global Wealth Builder product on 22 October 2026. The policy allows premiums and benefits to be denominated in US dollars, giving eligible customers access to investment options linked to international markets.

The launch adds to the range of foreign-currency insurance products available through GIFT City, Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, which houses India’s International Financial Services Centre (IFSC).

These policies combine life insurance cover with investments linked to market funds. Their returns depend on how the underlying investments perform and are not guaranteed.

Unlike the usual policies, which are in rupees, dollar-denominated insurance allows eligible clients to invest in a foreign currency. Policyholders can also receive their benefits in the same foreign currency. This could make these policies a practical option for non-resident Indians (NRIs) and people planning to pay for overseas education or retirement.

However, eligibility requirements, payment methods and policy conditions vary by product. Customers should check these details before purchasing a policy.

The Bajaj Life Global Wealth Builder policy offers investment choices linked to global equities, emerging markets, gold, liquid funds and artificial intelligence (AI)-related equities.

Other insurers also offer investment-linked policies through GIFT City. The products are from Ageas Federal Life Insurance, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, Canara HSBC Life Insurance, IndiaFirst Life Insurance and Tata AIA Life Insurance.

Foreign-currency policies can help customers match their savings with future expenses in the same currency. But movements in exchange rates might influence the return value when converted into rupees. Investment performance also remains uncertain.

Before choosing dollar-denominated insurance, buyers should compare premiums, fund management charges, other policy costs, withdrawal conditions, life cover and tax treatment. Those whose income and future expenses are mainly in rupees should pay particular attention to currency-conversion costs and exchange-rate risk.

The suitability of these policies depends on a buyer’s investment horizon, risk tolerance, currency needs and requirement for life cover.
