Stock Market Update 6 August 2026: Sensex, Nifty 50 Trade Marginally Higher
Stock Market Update: Markets traded a bit higher on 6 August 2026 as investors tracked broad market movements.

The Indian stock market indices traded marginally higher during early trading on Thursday. While Sensex was up by 149 points, Nifty 50 traded around the 24,600 mark.

Both the Sensex and Nifty 50 were trading marginally higher after the market opening on Thursday, 6 August 2026.

At around 9:17 AM, the Sensex was up by 149 points (0.19%) to trade at 78,730.38. The Nifty 50 was also up by just 6 points (0.02%) to trade at 24,630.65.

On Wednesday, 5 August 2026, the indices ended in the green as traders analysed the outcome of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) policy meeting. At the closing bell, the Sensex stood at 78,581.00, up 0.19%. The Nifty 50 stood at 24,624.65, up 0.04%.

Besides the Sensex and the Nifty 50, other broader indices were trading in mixed directions on Thursday morning.

At around 9:22 AM, Bank Nifty was up by 25 points (0.04%) to trade at 57,765.80. The Nifty Financial Services index was, however, down by around 13 points (0.05%) at 26,830.55.

Among the sectoral indices, Nifty Auto (down 0.56%), Nifty FMCG (down 0.13%) and Nifty Metal (down 0.08%) were trading in the red. Nifty Pharma (up 0.18%), Nifty PSU Bank (up 0.09%) and Nifty IT (up 0.30%) were trading in the green.

Market breadth was positive in early trading on Thursday. About 1759 shares advanced, 1074 shares declined, and 125 shares remained unchanged.

The top gainers on the Nifty included Hindustan Aeronautics, Muthoot Finance, Titan Company, Reliance Industries and Cipla.

The top losers were Power Grid Corp, Siemens Energy, Trent, Bosch and TVS Motor Company.

Global markets offered mixed cues on Thursday.

  • S&P 500 futures rose 0.2% as of 11:58 AM Tokyo time.

  • Japan’s Topix fell 0.4%.

  • Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.4%.

  • Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 1.7%.

  • The Shanghai Composite rose 0.3%.

  • Euro Stoxx 50 futures rose 0.2%.

  • Oil Prices: Crude oil prices dipped on Thursday as peace talks continued in the Middle East. Reports suggest that the US and Iran are nearing an agreement.

  • Rupee Opens Flat: The Indian National Rupee (INR) opened almost unchanged at 95.13 per US dollar on Thursday.

  • AI Rally Lost Momentum: The recent artificial intelligence (AI)-led rally in information technology (IT) stocks lost momentum on Thursday.

  • Positive Q1 Results: Most companies have declared their Q1 FY27 results. Increasing profits and revenues have boosted investor sentiments.

The markets are behaving erratically owing to a combination of national and international factors. Investors must keep an eye on the developing Middle East situation before taking any positions.
