    Stock Market Update 5 August 2026: Sensex Climbs Over 450 Pts; Nifty 50 Above 24,650
    Stock Market Update: Markets remain balanced on 5 August 2026 amid improving investor sentiment.

    Most Indian stock market indices traded in the green during early trading on Wednesday. While Sensex gained around 491 points, Nifty 50 traded above 24,650. All sectoral indices, except Nifty FMCG and Nifty Pharma, were also trading higher.

    At 9:17 AM, the Sensex was up by around 491 points (0.63%) to trade at 78,919.61. The Nifty 50 was also trading higher by around 36 points (0.15%) at 24,651.20.

    Notably, on Tuesday, 4 August 2026, the indices closed in the negative territory as traders took a cautious stance. At the closing bell, the Sensex stood at 78,428.95, down 0.27%. The Nifty 50 stood at 24,614.90, down 0.64%.

    Apart from the Sensex and the Nifty 50, other indices traded in mixed directions during early trading on Wednesday.

    At around 9:20 AM, Bank Nifty was down by 33 points (0.06%) to trade at 57,873.45. The Nifty Financial Services index was up by around 0.21% to trade at 26,901.35.

    Among the sectoral indices, Nifty Auto (up 0.81%), Nifty Metal (up 0.35%), Nifty PSU Bank (up 0.58%) and Nifty IT (up 0.04%) were trading in the green. Nifty FMCG (down 0.61%) and Nifty Pharma (down 0.51%) were in the red.

    The overall market breadth was bullish during early trading on Wednesday.

    At 9:24 AM, about 2002 shares were in the green, while 762 shares were in the red. 150 shares remained unchanged.

    The top gainers on Nifty included Interglobe Aviation, L&T, Shriram Finance, Bajaj Finance and Bharti Airtel.

    The top losers were Apollo Hospitals, Nestle, SBI Life Insurance, TCS and Titan Company.

    The global markets were firmly in the green amid improving geopolitical tensions.

    • S&P 500 futures rose 0.2% as of 10:46 AM Tokyo time.

    • Nikkei 225 futures (OSE) rose 3.4%.

    • Japan’s Topix rose 1.6%.

    • Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.1%.

    • Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.4%.

    • The Shanghai Composite rose 0.5%.

    • Euro Stoxx 50 futures rose 0.3%.

    • Middle East Tension: The US-Iran war in the Middle East showed no signs of re-escalation. If the ceasefire sustains, the markets could climb further.

    • Oil Prices Rise: Brent crude dipped sharply on Wednesday morning to trade below $80 per barrel. This augurs well for stock markets around the world.

    • Rupee Improved: The Indian National Rupee (INR) improved to open below 95 for the first time since 8 July 2026. The currency opened at 94.92 per US dollar on Wednesday.

    Improved geopolitical conditions and declining crude oil prices have led to positivity in the markets. If there is no war in the upcoming days, the indices could witness more rallies. Investors can wait for crucial levels before taking bigger positions.
