Most Indian stock market indices were trading in the red after the market opening on Wednesday, 12 August 2026.
At 9:17 AM, the Sensex was down by around 256 points (0.33%) to trade at 77,898.53. The Nifty 50 was also trading lower by around 73 points (0.30%) at 24,398.60.
Notably, on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, the indices closed in the deep red as uncertainty over the US-Iran peace deal impacted investor sentiment. At the closing bell, the Sensex stood at 78,154.25, down 0.49%. The Nifty 50 stood at 24,471.70, down 0.46%.
How Are Other Indices Performing?
Apart from the Sensex and the Nifty 50, other broader indices also traded in the red during early trading on Wednesday.
At around 9:20 AM, Bank Nifty was down by 105 points (0.18%) to trade at 57,340.80. The Nifty Financial Services index was also down by around 0.51% to trade at 26,298.85.
Among the sectoral indices, Nifty Auto (up 0.14%), Nifty Metal (up 1.16%) and Nifty PSU Bank (up 0.44%) were trading in the green. Nifty FMCG (down 0.58%), Nifty Pharma (down 0.08%) and Nifty IT (down 0.41%) were in the red.
Top Gainers And Losers
At 9:23 AM on Wednesday, about 1462 shares were in the green, while 1331 shares were in the red. 166 shares remained unchanged.
The top gainers on Nifty included Hindalco, PNB, Union Bank of India, Bosch and Vedanta.
The top losers were Godrej Consumer, Zydus, Apollo Hospitals, United Spirits and Max Healthcare.

The global markets gave mixed cues as crude oil prices continue to surge.
