Sensex and Nifty 50 traded in the red after the market opening on Tuesday. While Sensex was down by approximately 275 points, Nifty 50 lost over 60 points during early trading. Sectoral indices traded in mixed directions.

The Indian stock market indices traded in the red during early trading on Tuesday, 11 August 2026.

At around 9:18 AM, the Sensex was down by around 275 points (0.35%) to trade at 78,266.77. The Nifty 50 was trailing by around 69 points (0.28%) to trade at 24,514.60.

On Monday, 10 August 2026, the indices moved in a narrow range and closed on a positive note. At market close, the Sensex stood at 78,542.44, up 0.06%. The Nifty 50 stood at 24,583.80, up 0.05%.

Apart from the Sensex and the Nifty 50, other broader indices also traded in the red during early trading on Tuesday.

At around 9:21 AM, Bank Nifty was down 368 points (0.64%) to trade at 57,318.85. The Nifty Financial Services index was also down by around 0.67% to trade at 26,368.30.

The sectoral indices, however, traded in mixed directions. Nifty Auto (down 0.15%), Nifty FMCG (down 0.37%) and Nifty PSU Bank (down 0.57%) were in the red. Nifty Metal (up 0.26%), Nifty Pharma (up 0.02%) and Nifty IT (up 0.81%) were in the green.

During early trading on Tuesday, the top gainers on Nifty included Bosch, Hindustan Zinc, ONGC, Muthoot Finance and HCL Tech.

The top losers were Interglobe Aviation, Tata Consumer, HDFC Asset Management Co., Indian Oil Corp., and Bajaj Finance.

With rising oil prices and escalating Middle East tensions weighing down investor sentiments, global markets gave mixed cues on Tuesday.

  • S&P 500 futures were little changed as of 11:58 AM Tokyo time.

  • Nikkei 225 futures (OSE) fell 0.2%.

  • Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.2%.

  • Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.5%.

  • The Shanghai Composite fell 0.1%.

  • Euro Stoxx 50 futures were little changed.

Rupee Opens Higher: The Indian rupee opened a bit higher at 95.39 per US dollar on Tuesday. The previous close was at 95.30.

Global Oil Prices: Global oil prices edged higher on Tuesday as there was no deal between the US and Iran regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Rising Brent crude prices were one of the main irritants for global markets.

FII activity: Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have remained net buyers for most of the days in August so far. This factor, coupled with better-than-expected Q1 results, is keeping the markets resilient.

Markets are not able to take a clear direction due to a combination of national and international factors. While positive Q1 results are providing resilience, rising oil prices are weighing down investor sentiment. Developments in the Middle East remain a key factor for the market and could lead to short-term volatility.
