Sensex and Nifty 50 trade higher after the market reopened on 5 October 2026.

The Indian stock market indices rose sharply after the market opened on Monday morning and continued to trade higher. While the Sensex gained approximately 383 points, the Nifty 50 traded above 22,500.

The Indian stock market indices rose sharply as the markets reopened on Monday, 5 October 2026, after the long weekend break. They continued to trade higher as the session progressed.

At around 10:23 AM:

  • The Sensex was up by 383.92 points (0.53%) to trade at 72,293.62.

  • The Nifty 50 was up by 110.15 points (0.49%) to trade at 22,532.10.

On Thursday, 1 October 2026, the indices declined and closed in the red due to the West Asia crisis. At the closing bell, the Sensex stood at 71,909.70, down 0.79%. The Nifty 50 stood at 22,421.95, down 0.88%.

Apart from the Sensex and the Nifty 50, other broader indices also traded in the green during early trading on Monday.

At around 10:23 AM, Bank Nifty was up 415.60 points (0.76%) to trade at 54,866.25. The Nifty Financial Services index was also up by around 182.45 points (0.74%) to trade at 24,738.55.

All sectoral indices, except the Nifty Auto and Nifty Pharma, also traded in the positive territory.

  • Nifty Auto was down 0.33%.

  • Nifty FMCG was up 0.54%.

  • Nifty PSU Bank was up 1.83%.

  • Nifty Realty was up 1.31%.

  • Nifty Commodities was up 0.57%.

  • Nifty Private Bank was up 0.31%.

  • Nifty Metal was up 0.36%.

  • Nifty Pharma was down 0.73%.

  • Nifty IT was up 0.63%.

The global markets also gave bullish cues on Monday morning:

  • S&P 500 futures were little changed as of 12:38 PM Tokyo time.

  • Nikkei 225 futures (OSE) rose 2%.

  • Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.1%.

  • Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was little changed.

  • Euro Stoxx 50 futures rose 0.3%.

  • Crude Oil Surges: Global crude oil prices surged again on Monday as Yemen launched fresh strikes to recapture areas controlled by the Houthis.

  • Gold Edges Higher: Gold prices edged higher on Monday as weak US economic data weakened expectations of a Fed rate hike.

  • Rupee Opens Higher: The Indian National Rupee (INR) opened higher at 96.22 per US dollar. The previous close was at 96.32.
