Stock Market Update 15 September 2026: Sensex, Nifty 50 Lose Steam After Opening Higher
Sensex and Nifty 50 traded flat after opening higher on 15 September 2026.

Broader Indian stock market indices opened higher on Tuesday morning but lost momentum as the session progressed. 

The Indian stock market indices opened over 400 points higher on Tuesday, 15 September 2026. However, they soon lost steam to trade flat during the first hour of market opening.

At around 9:55 AM:

  • The Sensex was up by 25.74 points (0.03%) to trade at 74,807.50.

  • The Nifty 50 was down by 6.90 points (0.03%) to trade at 23,391.20.

On Friday, 11 September 2026, both benchmark indices tumbled sharply and ended in the red. At the closing bell, the Sensex stood at 74,781.76, down 0.16%. The Nifty 50 stood at 23,398.10, down 0.34%.

Apart from the Sensex and the Nifty 50, other broader indices traded in the red during early trading on Tuesday.

At around 9:55 AM, Bank Nifty was down 257.00 points (0.45%) to trade at 56,349.55. The Nifty Financial Services index was also down by around 0.51% to trade at 25,414.40.

Sectoral indices, meanwhile, traded in mixed directions.

  • Nifty Auto was down 0.06%.

  • Nifty FMCG was up 0.58%.

  • Nifty PSU Bank was down 1.01%.

  • Nifty Realty was down 1.47%.

  • Nifty Commodities was down 0.69%.

  • Nifty Private Bank was down 0.39%.

  • Nifty Metal was down 1.07%.

  • Nifty Pharma was down 0.67%.

  • Nifty IT was up 3.52%.

Global markets gave mixed cues on Tuesday:

  • S&P 500 futures were little changed as of 12:01 PM Tokyo time.

  • Japan’s Topix was little changed.

  • Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.9%.

  • Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.2%.

  • The Shanghai Composite was little changed.

  • Euro Stoxx 50 futures rose 0.3%.

  • Crude Oil Surges: Global crude oil prices surged again on Tuesday as attacks on Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure disrupted the supply chain.

  • Gold Declines: Gold prices declined on Tuesday as an increase in crude oil prices invoked concerns over persistent inflation across the world.

  • Rupee Opens Lower: The Indian National Rupee (INR) opened 21 paise lower at 95.76 per US dollar. The previous close was at 95.55.
