The Sensex and the Nifty 50 gave up the day’s gains and closed Thursday’s trading session almost flat. At the close:

Sensex stood at 77,186.87 (0.00%)
Broader markets also closed in the red. The Nifty Midcap 100 index closed 0.41% lower. On the other hand, the Nifty Smallcap 100 index ended 0.10% lower.
Sector-wise, the Nifty IT, Nifty Chemicals and Nifty Consumer Durables finished on solid footing. On the other hand, Nifty Realty and Nifty Financial Services declined (see table).

Crude oil prices continued to stay elevated due to heightened tensions between the US and Iran. At 15:37, Brent oil futures for September 2026 stood at $84.74 per barrel. During the same time, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures for August 2026 stood at $79.57 per barrel.

The focus in the next few trading sessions is expected to remain on the ongoing earnings season and geopolitical developments in West Asia. Investors are likely to track crude oil prices for cues on inflation and broader market sentiment.
