Pre-Market 7 September 2026: GIFT Nifty Hints At Flat Start; Oil, Fed Rate Outlook In Focus Today
Indian markets may see a muted start on Monday as oil prices and global market cues remain in focus.

Indian equities could see a muted start on Monday as GIFT Nifty remains nearly flat, while US-Iran tensions, crude prices and higher Fed rate-hike bets stay on investors’ radar today.

Indian equities start a new week after Friday's relief rally as geopolitical risks in the Middle East persist, while the focus shifts to US rate expectations, oil prices and the next set of global cues.

The BSE Sensex ended Friday 362.57 points higher at 76,515.43. The Nifty 50 added over 24.25 points to finish at 23,897.70. Broader markets had a mixed session, with the Nifty Midcap 100 ending lower while the Nifty Smallcap 100 closed in the green.

The rebound followed a drop in expectations of an imminent US Fed rate hike. Still, investors booked profits at higher levels, and concerns over the Middle East kept the upside in check.

Wall Street ended lower on Friday. The Dow Jones fell 0.51% to 53,414.25, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq declined 0.38% and 0.29%, respectively. All three major US indices were broadly flat for the week.

European shares also finished slightly lower. The FTSE 100 ended at 10,831.09, down 0.43 points. The CAC 40 Index finished at 8278.77, down by 7.63 points.

Middle East tensions, higher crude prices and concerns over inflation continued to weigh on regional markets.

Asian markets, however, ended higher. The Nikkei 225 closed at 65,020.94, up 1.26% on Friday, while the Hang Seng Index rose 1.74% to 25,650.87.

On 7 September 2026 at 7:30 am, GIFT Nifty was trading at 23,974.50, down 36 points, or 0.15%, hinting at a flat opening bias for Indian equities today.

The short-term trend remains weak, with the Nifty 50 trading below its 50-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) on the hourly chart.

The 24,000-24,200 zone remains the key hurdle. A move above this area could improve the near-term setup. On the downside, support is placed at 23,830, followed by 23,700.

The bias could remain on the sell-on-rise side as long as the index stays below 24,000-24,200.

Recent news about Trump planning "something much bigger" will remain on the radar, as any shift in the US approach to the Iran conflict could influence Indian equities. Foreign flows could also influence the session after foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) pulled out ₹7,443 crore from Indian equities in September so far.

Crude oil is another key cue. Brent ended last week near $96 a barrel as US-Iran tensions raised concerns over supply. For domestic equities, the Nifty 50's ability to hold above 23,830 will also be important after Friday's recovery.
