NCDEX To Launch Equity Indices On 22 October: Large-Cap And Financial Services Benchmarks In Focus As Exchange Expands

NCDEX may announce two equity indices on 22 October, focusing on large-cap stocks and financial services. The exchange is also preparing to revive guar and spices indices as it expands beyond commodities.
The National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) may announce two equity indices on 22 October 2026. These will focus on large-cap stocks and financial services.
The exchange is also expected to introduce two agriculture-linked indices, which is another step in its plan to expand beyond its traditional commodity business.
What Equity Indices Is NCDEX Planning To Launch?
The two proposed equity indices will focus on large-cap companies and financial services. NCDEX has got approval in principle from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to enter the equity and equity derivatives segments on 29 July 2025.
However, the exchange has reportedly deferred its equity derivatives launch until June 2027. The delay follows the regulatory requirement for a six-month gap between the launch of cash equity trading and equity derivatives, allowing time for the underlying market to develop sufficient liquidity.
Which Agriculture Indices Could Return?
NCDEX is also looking to revive its agriculture-linked indices, which had been discontinued in February 2022. The proposed products will track guar and spices.
The guar index is expected to cover guar gum, guar seeds and korma, while the spices index will comprise coriander, turmeric and cumin. The exchange is considering cash-settled indices, which could encourage participation from traders and agricultural value-chain businesses.
The broader Agridex revival remains dependent on regulatory restrictions on derivatives trading in seven agricultural commodities being lifted.
How Does This Fit Into NCDEX’s Expansion Plans?
The proposed indices form part of NCDEX’s strategy to develop into a multi-asset exchange. The exchange launched NCDEX Nidhi, a mutual fund transaction platform, on 29 July 2026 to expand access to mutual fund investments in rural and semi-urban India.
In 2025, NCDEX had raised ₹770 crore from investors and brokerage firms to fund its expansion into new business segments. It has also partnered with Tata Consultancy Services for technology support for its planned entry into equity markets.
