Pre-Market 30 September 2026: GIFT Nifty Points To Cautious Opening; Crude Oil, US-Iran In Focus
GIFT Nifty signals a cautious start as US-Iran tensions and global cues stay in focus.

GIFT Nifty points to a cautious start on Wednesday. Investors will also track US-Iran developments, crude near $105 a barrel and moves in global markets.

Indian equities head into Wednesday after another day in the red. The focus now shifts to overseas cues, oil prices and developments in the US-Iran conflict.

The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 242.65 points, or 0.33%, to 72,529.07. Nifty 50 declined 64.05 points, or 0.28%, to 22,716.20. Both indices recovered from deeper intraday losses before the close.

Brent crude slipped 0.09% to $105.10 a barrel. The rupee ended almost unchanged at 95.98 against the US dollar, while foreign institutional investors sold equities worth ₹5,353.22 crore on Monday.

The Nifty 50 has now formed lower highs and lower lows for another session. The monthly derivatives expiry for September also took place on Tuesday, adding to the market activity during the session.

The US stock market ended lower on Tuesday. Higher Treasury yields continued to weigh on sentiment. The 10-year US Treasury yield climbed to 5.293%, close to its highest level since 2007. At the same time, investors remained focused on the US-Iran situation after President Donald Trump rejected reports that Washington was considering sanctions relief for Tehran.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.26% to 51,349.92, while the S&P 500 fell 0.17% to close at 7,670.84. The Nasdaq Composite fell 0.09% to 26,797.54.

European markets ended lower. The FTSE 100 fell 0.45% to 10,636.71, while France's CAC 40 declined 0.53% to 8,035.87.

Asian markets were also weak. Japan's Nikkei 225 fell 0.60% to 65,481.27, while South Korea's Kospi declined 0.27% to 6,870.81.

At 7:42 am on 30 September, GIFT Nifty was trading at 22,835.00, up 5 points or 0.02%, signalling a cautious start for Indian equities on Wednesday.

Nifty 50's immediate resistance is placed at 22,750–22,800. A sustained move above this zone could take the index towards the psychological 23,000 mark.

On the downside, a break below Tuesday's low of 22,570 could bring the 22,400 area into focus, which is near the 200-week Exponential Moving Average (EMA). The next level is around 22,182, the April low.

Developments around the US-Iran conflict will remain a key international factor after Trump denied offering sanctions relief to Tehran. Iran is also continuing discussions through intermediaries over the conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

The rupee, foreign fund flows and movements in crude will also be watched as markets assess whether the recent selling pressure eases in the new session.
