Pre-Market 28 August 2026: GIFT Nifty Signals Positive Start After Sensex, Nifty Extend Losses

Indian markets may open higher after Thursday’s losses, supported by positive GIFT Nifty and Wall Street gains, while crude oil, Middle East tensions and Jackson Hole remarks remain key triggers.
Indian equities enter Friday's session after another weak day. The Nifty 50 closed below 24,100, while the Sensex lost more than 500 points.
Overseas markets offered a mixed set of cues, with US technology stocks gaining after Nvidia's results, even as European shares ended lower.
How Did Indian Markets Close On Thursday?
The BSE Sensex fell 539.34 points to 76,933.59, while the Nifty 50 declined 116.90 points to 24,090.85. Both benchmarks gave up ground as expiry-related swings added to the pressure.
Sectoral performance was mixed. Nifty Pharma and Private Bank gained, while Metal, PSU Bank, FMCG, Auto and IT stocks closed lower. Adani Enterprises was among the top Nifty gainers, while Hindalco Industries led the laggards.
Crude remained an important factor for domestic markets. Brent crude was at $88.36 a barrel, up 0.60%, as uncertainty over developments in the Middle East continued to keep energy prices in focus.
Global Indices
Wall Street rose in Thursday's session, helped by technology stocks following Nvidia's results and its strong outlook. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 105.56 points at 53,569.44, while the S&P 500 gained 55.29 points to 7,730.99. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 26,541.35, up by 411.15 points.
European markets did not follow Wall Street's lead. The FTSE 100 closed at 10,792.54, down 0.79%, while France's CAC 40 ended at 8,319.87, lower by 1.68%.
Asian markets were softer on Thursday. Japan's Nikkei 225 ended at 66,131.98, down 0.20%, while the Hang Seng Index closed at 25,565.74, down 0.34%.
GIFT Nifty Today
On 28 August at 7:41 am, GIFT Nifty was trading at 24,268.50, up 68.50 points, pointing to a positive start for Indian benchmarks.
Nifty 50 Technical View
The 24,025–24,000 zone remains the immediate support area for the Nifty 50. A decisive break below this band could bring 23,900–23,800 into focus.
On the upside, 24,300–24,400 is the immediate resistance zone. A sustained move above this range would be the next development to watch.
What To Watch In Friday's Session?
The near-term market setup remains range-bound, with lower crude prices, softer bond yields and foreign institutional buying offering some support. The next major global cue is Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's speech at Jackson Hole, where investors will look for signals on inflation and interest rates.
Crude oil prices and developments in the Middle East remain key variables. The latest Asian moves and GIFT Nifty reading will also be watched before the opening bell.
