Pre-Market 19 October 2026
GIFT Nifty points to a cautious start as Brent crude nears $110 a barrel amid global market volatility.

GIFT Nifty hints at a cautious opening for today, while Brent crude neared $110 a barrel as investors track oil prices, global market cues and bank Q2 results for Monday’s session.

Indian equities head into Monday’s session after benchmarks extended their gains for a second straight day on Friday, supported by IT stocks and buying across select cyclical sectors. However, crude oil surged towards $110 a barrel, while investors prepare to assess quarterly results from major private banks.

The Sensex and Nifty 50 rose for a second consecutive session on Friday. The Nifty 50 gained 0.65% to close at 23,146.15, while the Sensex advanced 0.56% to 74,729.27.

IT stocks continued to lead the recovery. TCS, Infosys, HCLTech and Tech Mahindra were among the stocks that rallied during the week, as better-than-expected earnings helped lift the sector. Buying also extended to auto, metal and PSU banking shares. The domestic rally came as global technology stocks weakened on concerns over AI valuations and spending.

Foreign institutional investors remained net sellers for a ninth straight week, but their net outflows eased to ₹8,991 crore from ₹30,294 crore in the previous week. They turned net buyers of ₹1,166 crore on Friday. Domestic institutional investors remained net buyers for a ninth consecutive week, with weekly inflows of ₹7,813 crore.

The rupee also posted its strongest weekly gain in seven months, rising around 2% over the week to close at ₹94.96 against the US dollar.

Crude oil prices surged on Friday, with Brent reaching $109.86 a barrel. Escalating attacks linked to Iran and the Houthis, concerns around the Strait of Hormuz and renewed Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries raised fears of tighter energy supplies.

Wall Street ended Friday lower as technology shares extended their decline amid concerns about AI-related investments and higher interest rates. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 175.28 points, or 0.34%, to 52,002.41. The S&P 500 dropped 1.09% to 7,659.44, while the Nasdaq Composite slid 2.14% to 26,140.03.

European markets ended Friday higher. The FTSE 100 gained 0.38% to 10,881.90, while France’s CAC 40 rose 0.28% to 7,956.70.

Asian markets climbed on Friday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 climbed 1.39% to 65,324.29, while South Korea’s KOSPI rose 2.05% to 5,668.05.

At 6:41 am on 19 October 2026, GIFT Nifty was trading at 23,101.50, up 7 points, pointing to a cautious start for Indian equities on Monday.

The Nifty 50’s immediate support has moved higher to the 22,800–22,900 range. The index needs to sustain buying and move decisively above 23,300–23,350 to extend its recovery.

The next resistance zone is at 23,400–23,450. A decisive move above this area could open the way towards 23,650, which coincides with the 100-day exponential moving average.

The Nifty and Sensex market outlook on Monday will depend on global cues, crude oil prices, developments in the US-India trade deal and quarterly earnings from major banks.

Quarterly results from HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank, announced over the weekend, will be a key domestic trigger. Crude oil is another major concern. Brent’s move towards $110 a barrel could increase India’s import bill and put pressure on the rupee, inflation and corporate costs.

The US-India trade deal is another key development for investors to track on Monday, particularly for its potential implications for export-oriented sectors and bilateral trade. Investors will watch for more clarity on its terms and timeline.
