Pre-Market 12 August 2026: Nifty Falls 112 Points; Crude, GIFT Nifty In Focus
Sensex and Nifty decline as GIFT Nifty signals a positive opening amid mixed market cues.

The Sensex fell 388 points to 78,154, while the Nifty declined 112 points to 24,472 on Tuesday. GIFT Nifty signals a positive start on Wednesday, while crude oil prices, the rupee and global market cues remain in focus today.

Indian equities are set to begin Wednesday's session after a weak finish a day earlier. The Nifty closed below the 24,500 mark. The rupee also weakened against the US dollar, while uncertainty around US-Iran developments kept oil prices in focus.

The Sensex ended 388 points lower at 78,154. Nifty finished at 24,472, down 112 points. The Nifty Bank slipped 241 points to 57,446, while the Nifty Midcap 100 fell 12 points to 63,843.

The session remained range-bound for much of the day, with the Nifty eventually ending below the 24,500 mark. The closing auction brought only modest changes. The Nifty adjusted by 22 points, the Sensex by 6 points and the Nifty Bank by 80 points.

The rupee ended at 95.44 per US dollar, weaker than Monday's close of 95.30. Oil prices and developments around the Strait of Hormuz remained key factors for the currency and domestic equities.

In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 53,791.85, down by 0.34%. The S&P 500 fell by 0.32% to close at 7,728.20, while the Nasdaq Composite fell by 0.60% to close at 26,445.45. Tech stocks weighed on the major US indices.

Developments in the Middle East were also tracked. Pakistan's defence minister said the US and Iran appeared close to some form of arrangement, while Qatar said Iran and Oman were in advanced talks over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

European markets finished lower. The FTSE 100 closed at 10,844.19, down 0.17%, while France's CAC 40 ended at 8,714.94, down 0.13%.

In Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei 225 rose 2.08% to 66,970.22, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 1.10% to 25,652.82.

On 12 August at 7:17 am, GIFT Nifty was trading at 24,538.50, up 23 points. The movement points to a positive opening bias for the Nifty 50 today.

  • Support: 24,300-24,200
  • Key level: 24,429
  • Resistance: 24,600-24,700

A break below 24,429 could bring the lower support zone into focus for the Nifty 50 index. On the upside, 24,600-24,700 remains the range to watch for a move higher.

Crude prices, the rupee and developments surrounding US-Iran talks will remain on the radar. Investors will also track the latest global market moves and inflation data due in India and the US.
