The Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex ended on a positive note on July 6, aided by healthy June-quarter business updates. HDFC Bank emerged as the top Nifty 50 gainer, while Kotak Mahindra Bank, TCS and Max Healthcare ended among the day's biggest losers.
June-quarter business updates shaped trading in several large-cap stocks on Monday, with banking names dominating the list of gainers. HDFC Bank, Hindalco Industries and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) emerged among the top performers on the Nifty 50, while Kotak Mahindra Bank and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) featured among the biggest losers.
The Nifty 50 closed 159.50 points, or 0.66%, higher at 24,430.35, while the BSE Sensex gained 521 points, or 0.67%, to end at 78,285.07.

HDFC Bank led the gains, while buying also spread to metal, oil & gas and automobile stocks.

HDFC Bank climbed 3.3% to finish as the top gainer on the Nifty 50 after reporting healthy growth in advances and deposits for the June quarter. The update also supported sentiment across private banking stocks during the session.
Hindalco Industries benefited from buying in metal stocks, while ONGC tracked gains in the oil & gas pack. Automobile companies like Bajaj Auto, Mahindra & Mahindra and Eicher Motors also ended among the day's top gainers.

Profit booking was visible in select financial, IT and defensive stocks even as the broader market ended higher.

Kotak Mahindra Bank fell 4% after reporting a sequential moderation in loan and deposit growth for the June quarter. The stock was the biggest drag on the benchmark despite gains across several other banking names.
Among IT stocks, TCS and Wipro closed lower as investors turned cautious ahead of the sector's earnings season, while Max Healthcare, Coal India and Bajaj Finserv also finished in the red.
Twenty-four of the Nifty 50 constituents closed higher, while 26 ended lower, highlighting a session where gains were concentrated in a handful of heavyweight stocks.
Midcap and Smallcap Stocks Also Stay Active
Beyond the benchmark, buying remained broad-based. Dixon Technologies gained about 7%, while Swan Corp, Zen Technologies, Allied Blenders & Distillers and Aegis Vopak Terminals were among the strongest performers in the Nifty 500. Capital goods stocks also recovered, with Hitachi Energy India, GE Vernova T&D India and Thermax posting healthy gains. On the losing side, Billionbrains Garage Ventures (Groww), Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), Suzlon Energy, Bank of India and Premier Energies were among the notable decliners.
