The Sensex and the Nifty ended today’s trading session in the positive on hopes of stability returning to the Middle East and a tumble in crude oil prices. Upon close, the:

  • BSE Sensex stood at 78,954.76, up 0.48%

On the sectoral front, the Nifty Chemicals and Nifty PSU Bank outperformed. They closed 1.3% and 2.20% higher, respectively. The Nifty Realty and Nifty Auto declined and closed 1.32% and 1.01% lower.

Here are the top five gainers and losers on the Nifty 50 index today:

Crude oil prices tumbled with investors optimistic over a US-Iran peace deal, which could bring an end to the Middle East conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

At 15:37, Brent oil futures for October 2026 stood at $79.65 per barrel. During the same time, crude oil West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures for September 2026 stood at $75.39 per barrel.

Some of the other major headlines of the day are as follows:

  • Global investment firm KKR has acquired Medicover India's hospital business at around ₹10,000 crore, according to people familiar with the development.

  • As per sources, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation has purchased 2 million barrels of West African oil via a tender for September delivery.

Gold and silver prices opened higher on the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) in early trade. They were supported by a weaker US dollar and easing oil prices amid growing optimism over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. However, as the day progressed, signals appeared mixed.

At 15:40, gold October futures on the MCX stood at ₹1,49,728 per 10 grams, up 0.83%. September silver futures stood at ₹2,27,180 per kg, down 0.18%, at the same time.

Going forward, geopolitical sentiments can influence market direction. The ongoing earnings season is also likely to have an impact.
