SBI, SBI Capital Markets Plan Sale Of 1% NSE Stake Through IPO

SBI and SBI Capital Markets plan to sell a combined stake of up to 1% in NSE through the exchange's proposed ₹30,000-crore IPO. SBI will dilute 0.65%, while its subsidiary may sell another 0.35%.
State Bank of India (SBI) and its subsidiary SBI Capital Markets Ltd. are planning to sell a combined stake of up to 1% in the National Stock Exchange (NSE) through the exchange's proposed ₹30,000-crore initial public offering (IPO).
SBI Chairman C S Setty said the bank plans to offload 0.65% of its NSE holding, while its subsidiary is expected to sell another 0.35%. The combined stake sale could be lower if other shareholders also participate in the offer.
SBI, SBI Capital Markets Hold 7.56% In NSE
SBI currently owns a 3.23% stake in NSE, while SBI Capital Markets holds 4.33%. The proposed divestment would therefore represent only a portion of the combined holding of the two SBI group entities.
Setty said the bank does not have any immediate plans to monetise stakes in its other subsidiaries.
The proposed NSE IPO is expected to comprise an offer for sale by existing shareholders, with the exchange itself not issuing any fresh shares. The IPO could raise around ₹30,000 crore, making it one of India's largest public offerings.
The SBI group is also participating in another major stake sale this year. Last month, SBI and its overseas partner Amundi together diluted around 10% of their holding in SBI Funds Management through a ₹9,800-crore public offer.
The SBI Funds issue received strong investor demand and was subscribed around 42 times. Following the listing, SBI's stake fell to 55.46% from 61.76%, while Amundi's holding declined to 32.56%.
SBI Home Loan Book Nears ₹10 Trillion
Setty also said SBI's home loan portfolio is expected to cross the ₹10-trillion mark during the current quarter, supported by continued demand for housing finance.
The country's largest lender crossed ₹9 trillion in home loans during the previous financial year. SBI currently accounts for nearly 28% of India's home loan market, according to Setty.
The bank has also expanded its housing finance network, with more than 460 home loan processing centres across the country. SBI said the wider network is aimed at making its home loan products more accessible to customers across India.
