Stock Market Update 31 July 2026: Sensex, Nifty 50 Trade Marginally Higher

The Indian stock market indices traded marginally higher during early trading on Friday. While Sensex gained nearly 48 points, Nifty 50 traded above the 24,350 mark. Global markets also remained bullish amid declining crude oil prices.
The Indian benchmark indices were trading marginally higher after the market opening on Friday, 31 July 2026.
At around 9:19 AM, the Sensex was up by 48 points (0.06%) to trade at 77,976.21. The Nifty 50 was also trading higher by around 37 points (0.16%) at 24,354.90.
On Thursday, 30 July 2026, the indices ended in the positive territory. At the closing bell, the Sensex stood at 77,928.15, up 0.35%. The Nifty 50 stood at 24,317.15, up 0.28%.
How Are Other Indices Performing?
Not just the Sensex and the Nifty 50, but most other Indian indices were in the green during early trading on Friday.
At around 9:22 AM, Bank Nifty was up by 187 points (0.33%) to trade at 57,334.95. The Nifty Financial Services index was also up by around 211 points (0.80%) to trade at 26,462.45.
Among the sectoral indices, Nifty Auto (up 0.70%), Nifty Metal (up 0.50%), Nifty Pharma (up 0.39%) and Nifty PSU Bank (up 0.56%) were trading in the green. Nifty FMCG (down 0.39%) and Nifty IT (down 3.08%) were in the red.
Top Gainers And Losers
At 9:15 AM, about 1,294 shares were in the green, 889 shares were in the red, and 157 shares remained unchanged.
The top gainers on the Nifty included Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Eternal, Shriram Finance and Jio Financial.
The top losers were Infosys, TCS, HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra and Wipro.

FII activity: Foreign institutional investors (FII) have cumulatively bought Indian stocks worth ₹7360 crore in the last three days. This shows optimism is back in the market.

Oil Prices Keep Falling: Crude oil prices kept falling on Friday as more ships were allowed to pass through the affected regions in the Middle East. Brent crude traded around $88 per barrel, while US WTI crude slipped to around $82 per barrel.

Rupee opens higher: The Indian currency also opened higher by 29 paise at 95.39 per US dollar on Friday. The previous close was at 95.68.
