The Sensex was down by around 116 points (0.15%) to trade at 77,252.88.

The Nifty 50 was down by around 52 points (0.21%) to trade at 24,167.30.
On Monday, 24 August 2026, Indian equity benchmarks opened higher but failed to hold on to the early gains as selling emerged during the session. At the closing bell, the Sensex stood at 77,369.11, down 171.72 points or 0.22%. The Nifty 50 stood at 24,219.05, down 32.95 points or 0.14%.

Except for the Nifty IT, most sectoral indices also traded in the red.
