Gross written premium climbed 19% during the period, and the company's underwriting profit jumped sharply too, coming in at ₹111 crore against just ₹16 crore in the year-ago quarter.

Gross written premium (GWP) for the quarter came in at ₹4,287 crore, compared with ₹3,605 crore a year earlier. Fresh business from the retail health segment stood out, with GWP rising 37% to ₹730 crore.

The insurer also reported an underwriting profit of ₹111 crore, up from ₹16 crore in the same quarter last year. Meanwhile, its combined insurance service ratio improved to 97.0% from 98.7%, meaning the company retained more of every premium rupee after paying claims and meeting operating costs.

The insurer's total income increased to ₹4,471 crore from ₹3,990 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Insurance revenue also grew 12.6% year-on-year to ₹4,917 crore, reflecting steady growth in its core health insurance business.

Star Health settled 9.6 lakh claims during the April-June quarter. Its retail claims settlement ratio improved to 91%, while persistence increased 3% year-on-year to 102%. The company's Net Promoter Score also rose by 12 points to 65 as of June 2026.

Managing Director and CEO Anand Roy said the company's consistent execution, disciplined operations, and improving underwriting profitability helped deliver a strong start to the financial year.

However, the insurer's solvency ratio declined to 209% from 222% in the same quarter last year, though it remained well above the regulatory requirement.

Star Health’s Q1 FY27 earnings were announced after market close on Wednesday. Ahead of the earnings announcement, the stock closed 2.54% higher at ₹598.85.

The shares have climbed 29.5% so far in 2026. Over the past year, they have gained more than 41%.
