NSE rebalancing set to trigger large inflows and outflows in Indian stocks

NSE's 29 September rebalancing is expected to trigger large passive flows in several stocks. BSE could see nearly $595 million of inflows, while Wipro may face around $152 million of outflows after its Nifty 50 exit.

The National Stock Exchange’s (NSE) latest index rebalancing takes effect on Tuesday, 29 September, bringing changes in the composition and weightages of several key indices.

The adjustments are part of the exchange's semi-annual index review and are expected to trigger sizeable buying and selling by funds that track the Nifty and other NSE indices.

Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) is among the stocks expected to attract the largest inflows, while Wipro is set for a significant outflow after being removed from the Nifty 50. Estimates from the NSE and IIFL Alt Desk indicate the scale of flows expected in some of the major stocks.

BSE is expected to see the biggest inflow among the stocks being rebalanced.

The stock is set to enter the Nifty 50 and could attract around $595 million of inflows, equivalent to roughly 16.75 million shares.

BSE stock had fallen 7.5% over the past month but remained up 19.9% in 2026.

Vedanta Aluminium Metal is expected to see inflows of around $146 million, involving 30.74 million shares. The stock had declined 8% over the past month. The stock will be included in the NSE indices.

Adani Enterprises is expected to receive around $69 million of inflows involving 2.14 million shares as its weight in the Nifty 50 increases.

The stock had declined 10.4% in the previous month but remained 25.6% higher in 2026.

Polycab could see inflows of around $65 million for about 0.7 million shares.

Its shares had fallen 9.7% over the past month but were still up 7.11% in 2026.

Hitachi Energy India, also known as Power India, is expected to attract around $57 million for approximately 0.17 million shares.

The stock had declined 8.9% over the past month but remained up 58% for the year.

Vodafone Idea is expected to see around $57 million of inflows involving nearly 360 million shares.

The stock had fallen 7% over the past month but was still up 17.8% in 2026.

Wipro is set to be excluded from the Nifty 50, resulting in estimated outflows of around $152 million for 83.09 million shares.

The change marks the first time Wipro will be removed from the Nifty 50 since the index was launched.

Wipro shares had fallen 10.2% over the past month and were down 39.2% in 2026.

Indian Hotels Company is expected to see around $96 million of outflows involving 11.82 million shares.

The Tata Group company's shares had gained 1.6% over the past month but remained down 2.8% for the year.

United Spirits is expected to see an outflow of around $63 million involving about 3.98 million shares.

Its shares had declined 6.3% over the past month.

Shree Cement could see around $62 million of outflows for approximately 0.25 million shares.

The stock had fallen 7.3% over the past month. Its decline in 2026 stood at around 17%.

REC is expected to see outflows of nearly $59 million involving 16.82 million shares as part of the rebalancing.

The stock had fallen 2.9% over the past month and was down 16.3% in 2026.

Lodha Developers is expected to see outflows of around $47 million involving 3.6 million shares.

The real estate company's stock had declined 11% over the past month but remained up 5.6% in 2026.

The rebalancing-related trades will take effect on Tuesday, with the estimated flows reflecting changes in index inclusion and weightages across the NSE's indices.
