LIC Q1 FY 2026-27 Results: Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) on Thursday reported its financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 after market hours

The company's consolidated net profit rose 22.81 percent year-on-year to Rs 13,492 crore from Rs 10,986 crore in the corresponding quarter last year.

Net premium income rose 6.7 percent year-on-year to Rs 1.28 lakh crore from Rs 1.20 lakh crore in the year-ago period. Income from first-year premium improved to Rs 9,217 crore from Rs 7,525 crore, while income from renewal premiums rose to Rs 61,833 crore from Rs 59,885 crore a year earlier. Single premium collections stood at Rs 56,369 crore, compared with Rs 51,923 crore in the same period last year.

Total income for the quarter increased to Rs 2,37,848 crore from Rs 2,22,864 crore in the year-ago period, while total expenses rose to Rs 2,25,573 crore from Rs 2,11,928 crore. The solvency ratio improved to 2.42 times from 2.17 times a year earlier.

The Value of New Business (VNB) for the quarter stood at Rs 3,136 crore, up 61.32 percent year-on-year from Rs 1,944 crore in the corresponding period last year.

Based on first-year premium income, LIC retained its leadership in the Indian life insurance market with an overall market share of 60.10 percent. During the quarter, the company held a market share of 38.89 percent in the individual business and 70.90 percent in the group business.

Assets under management increased 4.10 percent year-on-year to Rs 59.39 lakh crore as on June 30, 2026, from Rs 57.05 lakh crore a year earlier.

Commenting on the results, CEO and Managing Director R Doraiswamy said the company maintained its leadership in both the individual and group businesses during the first quarter despite increasing competitive intensity in the life insurance industry. He added that LIC's overall market share of 60.10 percent, based on first-year premium income, was in line with the company's market share strategy.

Doraiswamy said the 61 percent growth in Value of New Business, along with the VNB margin expanding by 7.5 percentage points to 22.90 percent, was a direct outcome of the company's product diversification and distribution strategy.

He also referred to the government's recent offer for sale, in which an additional 6.5 percent stake was sold, saying the response was well received by the markets. He welcomed the new shareholders to the LIC shareholder family and thanked existing shareholders for their continued participation.

The government said on Wednesday, August 5, that the offer for sale in LIC received an overwhelming response from both retail and non-retail investors, enabling it to raise Rs 31,552 crore through the largest public offering in the country's history. A total of 82,23,33,558 equity shares were allotted under the OFS.

Shares of LIC closed 1.39 percent lower at Rs 387.55 on the NSE on Thursday. The company announced its quarterly results after market hours. LIC had a market capitalisation of Rs 4.9 lakh crore as of August 6, 2026.
