Godrej Industries Group Enters Private Credit Space, Targets Rs 2,000 Crore Maiden AIF
Godrej Industries Group enters private credit with a ₹2,000 crore maiden AIF under Godrej Asset Management.

Godrej Industries Group has entered the private credit space with a maiden AIF targeting up to Rs 2,000 crore, expanding its lending footprint under Godrej Asset Management Company.

Godrej Industries Group (GIG) has entered the private credit business, aiming to raise up to Rs 2,000 crore through its maiden alternate investment fund (AIF). The move places Godrej Asset Management Company (AMC) at the centre of the group's expanding presence in India's lending and asset management space.

The launch comes shortly after Pirojsha Godrej, representing the next generation of the family-run conglomerate, assumed the role of chairperson at the group. According to a company statement, Godrej AMC will structure the fund as a Category-II AIF, with a sector-agnostic strategy focused on providing performing credit to established mid-market private companies.

The fund has a minimum fundraising target of Rs 1,000 crore, with an overall corpus target of Rs 2,000 crore, including a greenshoe option. Capital will be raised from high-net-worth individuals, ultra-high-net-worth individuals, family offices and institutional investors, the company said.

The fund will provide secured financing backed by hard collateral and comprehensive covenant protections, with the strategy focused on capital preservation and attractive risk-adjusted returns for investors.

GIG already operates in the lending and wealth management space through its subsidiary, Godrej Capital. The new AIF expands the group's presence into structured private credit, where businesses that may not fit conventional bank or non-bank financing criteria can access alternative sources of capital.

Manish Shah, Managing Director and CEO of Godrej Capital and a Non-Executive Director of Godrej AMC, described the entry into private credit as a natural progression for the business. He said the group plans to deepen its capabilities in asset management more broadly.

Shah said many well-managed mid-sized businesses require more flexible capital than traditional financing routes can provide, without having to dilute equity. He added that the platform is designed to address this need by combining an understanding of Indian businesses with disciplined capital deployment.

Pavan Manchala, Chief Investment Officer for private credit at the platform, said durable outcomes in the segment depend on identifying resilient companies, carefully structuring capital and maintaining strict underwriting discipline throughout the investment process.

The company said the strategy will prioritise capital preservation while targeting attractive risk-adjusted returns for investors.
