BSE Shares Fall 4% In Early Trade As Goldman Sachs, BNP Paribas Sell ₹2,186 Crore Stake

BSE shares declined in Wednesday’s early trade after large bulk deals involving Goldman Sachs and BNP Paribas, even as the stock exchange entered the Nifty 50 index.
Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) shares fell around 4% in early trade on Wednesday after Goldman Sachs Investments Mauritius I Ltd and BNP Paribas Financial Markets sold more than 68 lakh shares of the stock exchange through bulk deals worth over ₹2,186 crore.
The selling came as BSE replaced Wipro in the benchmark Nifty 50 index following the latest semi-annual index rejig. According to National Stock Exchange (NSE) bulk-deal data, Goldman Sachs Investments Mauritius sold 23.8 lakh BSE shares at ₹3,200 apiece.
BNP Paribas Financial Markets sold 44.52 lakh shares at a weighted average price of ₹3,199.54 per share. Together, the two entities sold 68.33 lakh shares, or around 1.67% of BSE’s equity, for nearly ₹2,186 crore. At 12:04 pm, BSE shares were down 2.86% on NSE.
Mutual Funds Buy BSE Shares
The bulk deals also saw buying from mutual funds. UTI Mutual Fund bought 27.13 lakh BSE shares at ₹3,200 per share. Nippon India Mutual Fund purchased another 25.3 lakh shares at the same price. The two mutual funds bought a combined 52.43 lakh shares worth around ₹1,678 crore.
Note that BSE’s inclusion in the Nifty 50 is expected to bring fresh institutional demand for the stock. As per estimates, the change could result in inflows of around $657 million.
BSE Stock Performance
Despite Wednesday’s decline, BSE shares have recorded a sharp rise over the longer term. The stock is up 22% in 2026. Over three years, BSE shares have delivered a gain of around 640%. The stock has risen 2,239% over five years.
The recent trend, however, has been weaker. BSE shares have fallen more than 2% over both the past week and the past month. The stock’s recent performance has come amid concerns around issues linked to the closing auction session (CAS), along with weakness across the broader market.
