Bharti Airtel Discontinues Rs 299, Rs 579, Rs 619, Rs 649 Prepaid Plans; Replacements Priced Up To 16% Higher

Bharti Airtel has discontinued select prepaid plans across the country from today, August 12 including the Rs 299, Rs 579, Rs 619 and Rs 649 packs, with replacement options priced 5-16% higher. The changes come days after Airtel reported a strong June quarter
Telcom provider Bharti Airtel has discontinued its Rs 299, Rs 579, Rs 619 and Rs 649 prepaid plans, with replacement options costing 5-16% more, according to CNBC-TV18.
The Rs 299 plan is among the key changes. It offered 1.5GB of data per day for 28 days and has now been removed, with the Rs 349 pack becoming the next available option. The Rs 349 plan offers 2GB of data per day for 28 days, making it 16% more expensive than the discontinued Rs 299 pack.
Airtel has also removed several mid-range price points from its prepaid portfolio. The Rs 199 plan remains available with 2GB of data for 28 days, while the Rs 219 plan offers 3GB of data for 28 days.
The changes are selective rather than a blanket tariff hike across Airtel's prepaid plans. Customers moving to the next available options in the affected categories will pay between 5% and 16% more.
Other Airtel Prepaid Plan Changes
Separately, Airtel has removed other prepaid plans, including the Rs 319 and Rs 799 packs. Some of the discontinued plans offered around 1.5GB of data per day, with validity varying across the different packs.
The Rs 579 and Rs 619 plans had also been removed from select circles, including Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, before the latest changes. The availability of prepaid plans can vary by circle.
Airtel has also repriced its Rs 859 prepaid plan to Rs 899, without adding any additional benefits. The Rs 799 plan was also removed from its portfolio.
The latest changes come as telecom operators continue to expand their 5G offerings while adjusting their existing 4G prepaid portfolios.
Telecom regulators have advised operators to ensure that both 4G and 5G plans remain available so that customers have a choice between the two technologies. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has also said operators that fail to maintain consistent service quality for customers could face penalties.
Airtel Q1 FY 2026-27 Performance
The changes come days after Bharti Airtel reported a strong June quarter, with revenue and EBITDA ahead of Street expectations.
For the quarter ended June 2026, consolidated revenue rose 5.7% sequentially to Rs 58,539 crore, compared with the CNBC-TV18 poll estimate of Rs 57,054 crore.
Consolidated EBITDA increased 4.8% quarter-on-quarter to Rs 33,599 crore, ahead of the Rs 32,568-crore poll estimate. EBITDA margin stood at 57.4%, compared with the Street estimate of 57.1% and 57.8% in the previous quarter.
The company continued to see momentum across its India and Africa businesses, alongside growth in premium mobile subscribers and broadband customers.
