Adani Ports Cargo Volume Rises 11% To 46 MMT In September

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone handled 46 million metric tonnes of cargo in September, up 11% year-on-year. H1 FY27 volumes rose 15% to 280 MMT.
As per its latest filing with the exchanges, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) handled 46 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo in September 2026. This marked an 11% year-on-year rise, according to its latest operational update.
Container cargo led the growth during the month, increasing 15% year-on-year. For the first half of FY27, APSEZ handled 280 MMT of cargo, up 15%, with both container and dry cargo volumes rising 15%.
On 1 October, the Adani Ports share price closed at ₹1,737.80 on the NSE, down 3.36%.
What Did The APSEZ Operational Performance Show?
Adani Ports operates across port handling and logistics, with cargo volumes forming a key part of its operating performance. Its logistics operations also include rail movement, which is tracked alongside cargo handled at its ports.
Logistics rail volume stood at 62,302 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in September, up 3% year-on-year. However, rail volumes for H1 FY27 were 312,763 TEUs, down 13% from the year-ago period.
The September numbers therefore showed stronger cargo handling even as the half-year logistics rail performance remained lower.
How Is APSEZ Expanding Its International Port Operations?
Furthermore, APSEZ’s Colombo West International Terminal (CWIT) in Sri Lanka has doubled its capacity from 1.6 million to 3.2 million TEUs following a $750 million Phase II expansion.
The terminal has already handled 2 million TEUs within its first 18 months of operation. The expanded facility can now berth three ultra-large container vessels simultaneously and is targeting nearly 25% of the Port of Colombo’s 13 million TEU capacity target by 2028.
