Adani Defence will invest ₹2,500 crore to build a missile manufacturing hub in Madhya Pradesh, creating an integrated defence ecosystem, generating jobs and boosting India's push for self-reliance.

Adani Group is increasing its presence in the defence sector by unveiling a massive investment of ₹2,500 crore to set up a missile manufacturing centre at Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh. The centre will be inaugurated by Adani Defence and Aerospace and is projected to boost India's indigenous defence manufacturing, while also generating numerous employment opportunities.

The chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, along with the Union Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, laid the foundation stone of the project. Adani Group directors Karan Adani and Jeet Adani were also present at the ceremony.

According to officials, the new plant will house an integrated defence manufacturing ecosystem comprising a missile complex, a composite propellant complex and a TNT complex. The project is aimed at supporting the Centre's Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives by increasing domestic production of critical defence equipment.

With the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) along with the Armed Forces providing direction to the project, the factory will be making medium- to long-range missile systems and will help India reduce dependence on imports when it comes to defence technology.

Adani Defence has already established a strong manufacturing base in Gwalior, where it produces its entire range of Light Machine Guns (LMGs), assault rifles and carbines. The company's LMG programme has already delivered 2,000 units to the Armed Forces, 11 months ahead of schedule.

The Shivpuri project is the next major step in building a fully integrated missile manufacturing ecosystem in India. Besides missile systems, the plant is going to produce composite propellants, TNT and other explosive-grade materials. This will make the facility a complete manufacturing ecosystem.

Not only will the project give a big push to India's defence manufacturing sector, but it is also expected to provide 5,000 direct employment opportunities. Altogether, more than 50 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) may become part of the specialised defence supply chain.
