NSE Gets SEBI NOC For Corporate Bond Index Futures, RBI Approval Next

NSE has received a NOC from SEBI to introduce futures contracts on a corporate bond index. The proposed NSE corporate bond index futures will still require RBI approval before launch.
The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) corporate bond index futures proposal has moved a step closer to introduction after the exchange received a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
The exchange said the proposed introduction of futures contracts on a corporate bond index is designed to help market participants manage corporate bond market risk and contribute to the development of India's broader corporate bond derivatives ecosystem.
However, the product remains subject to the requisite approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
On 1 October 2026, at 10:09 am, NSE shares were trading at ₹1,752.10, down ₹10.95 or 0.62% on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). It touched a high of ₹1,765 and a low of ₹1,750 in the early trade.
Hedging, Price Discovery Role Of Bond Index Futures
The corporate bond index futures are proposed as an exchange-traded instrument. According to NSE, the product could provide an additional route for risk management, portfolio hedging and price discovery.
The proposed contracts could also support market-making activities. NSE said participants could use them to manage risks arising from their corporate bond portfolios, potentially adding another mechanism for managing risk in the corporate bond market.
NSE Links The Product To Deeper Fixed-Income Markets
The proposed NSE corporate bond index futures form part of the exchange's stated efforts to deepen India's fixed-income markets.
Sriram Krishnan, Chief Business Development Officer at NSE, said the initiative reflects NSE's focus on developing deeper, more liquid and resilient debt markets in India.
NSE began operations in 1994 and was the country's first exchange to implement electronic or screen-based trading. Its businesses include exchange listings, trading services, clearing and settlement, indices and market data feeds.
