Gold Sales Reach ₹60,000 Crore On Dhanteras 2026, Buyers Shift To Lightweight Jewellery And Smaller Coins

Gold sales in India reached an estimated ₹60,000 crore during Dhanteras 2026. This marked a 15-20% rise year-on-year. Combined gold and silver sales also crossed ₹66,000 crore over several days.
Gold sales in India are estimated to have risen 15-20% year-on-year (YoY) to around ₹60,000 crore during Dhanteras 2026. However, the quantity of gold sold is expected to remain broadly unchanged from last year, as higher prices continue to influence purchase decisions.
Combined gold and silver sales crossed ₹66,000 crore nationwide over the preceding several days, according to the All India Jewellers and Goldsmith Federation. Delhi's bullion markets alone recorded a business of more than ₹10,000 crore.
Gold And Silver Demand Rises As Prices Correct
The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC) estimated gold sales at around ₹60,000 crore. It also expects silver sales to increase 30% in value and 10% in volume. Showroom visitors and prior bookings were ahead of last year, especially in the west and north.
In Delhi, the 24-carat gold price was ₹1.46 lakh per 10 grams on 06 November 2026, including taxes. This was lower than the ₹1.83 lakh peak recorded on 29 January 2026, but remained above ₹1.32 lakh on Dhanteras last year.
Silver price stood at ₹1.92 lakh per kilogram (kg), compared with its January peak of ₹4.04 lakh and ₹1.70 lakh on the previous year's Dhanteras.
Gold price today, on 07 November 2026, for 24-carat gold in Delhi, stood at ₹1.43 lakh per 10 grams. Today’s silver rate was ₹2.05 lakh per kg.
Lightweight Jewellery Gains Preference
Buyers increasingly opted for lightweight pendants, bangles and chains, along with smaller gold and silver coins. Demand for 18-carat jewellery was particularly strong, accounting for around half of sales at one jewellery company. Consumers also chose 14-carat and 9-carat designs. Gold coins weighing 1-5 grams attracted interest.
Jewellery companies saw mixed growth. Kama Jewellery sales were up 10%. Senco Gold's sales value has gone up by more than 25%. Sales volumes at PC Jewellers rose 30-35% in volume and 45-50% in value. Raj Diamonds reported around 20% growth in festive demand.
Digital Gold And Old-Gold Exchanges Add To Festive Buying
Digital gold also attracted younger consumers, with purchases available from as little as ₹10 on one platform. Retail purchases extended beyond jewellery and coins to bars, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and digital gold.
Old gold exchanges allowed consumers to fund new purchases. Smaller gold bars and coins allowed buyers to stagger purchases across price points. Natural diamond jewellery also saw increased demand, with lightweight designs and coloured gemstones catching the eye.
