Bank Holiday Today: Are SBI, HDFC Bank And ICICI Branches Open?

Banks across India, including SBI, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank, will remain closed on 26 September due to the fourth Saturday holiday, ahead of a proposed three-day nationwide bank strike.
Bank customers planning to visit a branch on 26 September should note that branches across India will remain closed. The closure applies to major lenders, including State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank.
The reason is that 26 September falls on the fourth Saturday of the month. Under the regular banking holiday schedule, banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month.
The closure is separate from the proposed nationwide bank strike scheduled for later this month.
Banks To Open On Sunday Before Proposed Strike
Public sector banks and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) are scheduled to operate on Sunday, 27 September 2026. The arrangement is intended to give customers an opportunity to complete essential branch-related transactions before the proposed strike.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the operation of bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests on 27 September.
Customers who need branch-based services should therefore consider completing their work on Sunday. They should also check with their respective bank for any branch-specific instructions.
Bank Strike Scheduled From 28 to 30 September
The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called for a three-day nationwide bank strike from 28 September to 30 September 2026.
The unions have raised several demands. These include a five-day banking week, improvements to pension benefits, a uniform dearness allowance formula for pensioners and an option for eligible NPS-covered bank employees to move to the old pension scheme.
Digital banking services such as UPI, internet banking, mobile banking and ATMs are expected to remain available. However, customers should check individual bank advisories for any service-specific disruptions.
Therefore, customers with urgent branch-related work should plan ahead. SBI, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank branches will remain closed today, 26 September, because of the fourth Saturday holiday.
