Vodafone Idea posted a ₹51,970 crore profit in Q4FY26 after a one-time AGR-related gain boosted earnings. Revenue and EBITDA also improved. Read more about subscriber additions, debt worries, and the company’s fundraising plans.

Telecom operator Vodafone Idea reported a consolidated net profit of ₹51,970 crore in the March quarter of FY26, marking a sharp turnaround from the net loss of ₹7,166 crore it posted a year earlier. This was mainly driven by a one-time accounting gain linked to the reassessment of adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

Revenue from operations rose 3% year-on-year to ₹11,332 crore, while earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased 4.9% to ₹4,889 crore.

Despite the earnings jump, Vodafone Idea shares were down 2.08% on 18 May at 10:00 AM. Investors were still worried about Vodafone Idea’s heavy debt load and saw that the sharp jump in profit mainly came from a one-time accounting adjustment, not a full recovery in the company’s core business.

The biggest contributor to the company’s quarterly profit was the reassessment of AGR liabilities by the government. Following the revision, Vodafone Idea recognised the present value of future AGR payments under the updated structure, resulting in an exceptional gain of more than ₹55,000 crore during the quarter.

Without this one-time adjustment, the telecom operator would have continued to remain loss-making, although its operational performance showed signs of improvement.

The company’s average revenue per user (ARPU) rose to ₹190 in Q4FY26 from ₹175 a year ago, reflecting an 8.3% increase. Vodafone Idea said this remained the highest ARPU in the industry. Its 4G and 5G subscriber base also increased to 128.9 million from 126.4 million in Q4FY25.

Vodafone Idea continued to expand its network infrastructure during FY26. The company launched 5G services across 83 cities and expanded its 4G coverage by 48 million users, taking total population coverage to more than 86%.

Capex spending during the financial year stood at ₹8,742 crore. The company also added more than 17,300 broadband towers, taking the total count to 202,008 towers.

CEO Abhijit Kishore said the impact of the company’s investments and network rollout is now becoming visible across key business metrics. According to him, subscriber additions turned net positive from February 2026, which marked an important milestone for the telecom operator.

The board also approved the issuance of fully convertible warrants worth ₹4,730 crore to a promoter group entity on a preferential basis. The proposed fund infusion is expected to support Vodafone Idea’s ongoing network expansion plans as competition in India’s telecom sector continues to intensify.
