Stock Market Update 8 October 2026: Sensex Dropped Over 350 Pts; Nifty 50 Below 22,500 In Early Trade
Sensex and Nifty 50 opened and traded lower on Thursday morning.

Indian stock market indices opened lower and continued to trade in the red on Thursday morning. While the Sensex dropped approximately 368 points, the Nifty 50 was trading below 22,500.

At around 10:28 AM:

  • The Sensex was down by 368.19 points (0.51%) to trade at 72,270.51.

  • The Nifty 50 was down by 135.75 points (0.60%) to trade at 22,467.30.

On Wednesday, 7 October 2026, the benchmark indices remained volatile throughout the session and closed lower. At the closing bell, the Sensex stood at 72,638.70, down 0.59%. The Nifty 50 stood at 22,603.05, down 0.76%.

Apart from the Sensex and the Nifty 50, other broader indices also traded in the negative territory during early trading on Thursday.

At around 10:28 AM, Bank Nifty was down 109.80 points (0.20%) to trade at 54,945.75. The Nifty Financial Services index was also down by 98.95 points (0.40%) to trade at 24,817.45.

Sectoral indices, meanwhile, traded in mixed directions:

  • Nifty Auto was down 0.40%.

  • Nifty FMCG was down 0.77%.

  • Nifty PSU Bank was up 0.52%.

  • Nifty Realty was down 1.36%.

  • Nifty Commodities was down 1.46%.

  • Nifty Private Bank was down 0.41%.

  • Nifty Metal was down 1.86%.

  • Nifty Pharma was down 0.67%.

  • Nifty IT was up 1.87%.
