Stock Market Update 7 October 2026: Sensex Dropped Over 400 Pts; Nifty 50 Close To 22,600 In Early Trading
Sensex and Nifty 50 opened and traded lower on Wednesday morning.

Indian stock market indices opened lower and continued to trade in the red on Wednesday morning. While the Sensex dropped approximately 429 points, the Nifty 50 was trading close to 22,600.

At around 10:07 AM:

  • The Sensex was down by 429.73 points (0.59%) to trade at 72,638.08.

  • The Nifty 50 was down by 167.35 points (0.73%) to trade at 22,608.75.

On Tuesday, 6 October 2026, the benchmark indices closed in the positive for the second consecutive session. At the closing bell, the Sensex stood at 73,067.81, up 0.95%. The Nifty 50 stood at 22,776.10, up 0.98%.

Apart from the Sensex and the Nifty 50, other broader indices also traded in the red during early trading on Wednesday.

At around 10:07 AM, Bank Nifty was down 273.00 points (0.50%) to trade at 54,855.40. The Nifty Financial Services index was also down by about 120 points (0.48%) at 24,826.15.

All sectoral indices also traded in the red.

  • Nifty PSU Bank was down 0.61%.
