Stock Market Update 1 October 2026: Sensex, Nifty 50 Trade Lower
Sensex and Nifty 50 opened and traded lower on Thursday morning.

Indian stock market indices opened and traded lower on Thursday morning. While the Sensex lost approximately 93 points, the Nifty 50 was trading below 22,600. 

The Indian stock market indices opened lower and continued to trade in the red on Thursday, 1 October 2026.

At around 10:29 AM:

  • The Sensex was down by 93.63 points (0.13%) to trade at 72,386.66.

  • The Nifty 50 was down by 63.55 points (0.28%) to trade at 22,556.90.

On Wednesday, 30 September 2026, the benchmark indices traded in a narrow range before closing lower. At the closing bell, the Sensex stood at 72,480.29, down 0.07%. The Nifty 50 stood at 22,620.45, down 0.42%.

Apart from the Sensex and the Nifty 50, other broader indices traded in the positive territory during early trading on Thursday.

At around 10:29 AM, Bank Nifty was up 318.55 points (0.58%) to trade at 54,951.60. The Nifty Financial Services index was also up by around 106.70 points (0.43%) to trade at 24,756.20.

Sectoral indices, meanwhile, traded in mixed directions:

  • Nifty Auto was down 2.60%.

  • Nifty FMCG was down 0.76%.

  • Nifty PSU Bank was up 0.19%.

  • Nifty Realty was down 0.47%.

  • Nifty Commodities was down 1.06%.

  • Nifty Private Bank was up 1.09%.

  • Nifty Metal was down 1.11%.

  • Nifty Pharma was up 0.26%.

  • Nifty IT was up 1.74%.

Global markets gave bullish cues on Thursday morning:

  • S&P 500 futures rose 0.4% as of 12:12 PM Tokyo time.

  • Hang Seng futures fell 0.7%.

  • Japan’s Topix rose 0.1%.

  • Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell 1.8%.

  • Euro Stoxx 50 futures fell 0.6%.

  • Crude oil prices steady: Crude oil prices remained nearly flat on Thursday after rising sharply during the previous trading session.

  • US stocks end lower: Most US stocks ended lower on Wednesday as investors remained cautious amid riskier markets.

  • Rupee opens lower: The Indian rupee opened lower at 95.95 per dollar on Thursday versus the previous close of 95.82.

  • Gold prices flat: Gold prices remained mostly unchanged on Thursday as investors await US jobs data.
