Indian stock markets will remain closed on 28 May 2026 for Bakri Id, resulting in a shortened four-day trading week.

Indian stock market investors will have a shortened trading week, as both the Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange of India will remain closed on Thursday, 28 May 2026, on account of Bakri Id (Eid-ul-Adha). The trading holiday applies across major market segments, including equity, equity derivatives, currency derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), electronic gold receipts (EGR), NDS-RST and Tri-Party Repo.

This will be the second exchange holiday in May this year, after the closure on 1 May for Maharashtra Day. With the upcoming holiday falling on a Thursday, the final week of May will effectively see four trading days: Monday (25 May), Tuesday (26 May), Wednesday (27 May), and Friday (29 May).

According to the NSE holiday calendar for the calendar year 2026, Indian stock markets are scheduled to observe 16 trading holidays in total. Including regular weekend closures, the market will remain shut for three days this week: 28 May (Thursday) for Bakri Id, followed by 30 May (Saturday) and 31 May (Sunday).

For commodity traders, the schedule differs slightly. Trading on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India will remain closed during the morning session from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on 28 May. However, the exchange is expected to reopen for the evening session from 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM/11:55 PM, depending on the commodity segment.

Market participants may also note that after 28 May, the next stock market holiday is scheduled for 26 June 2026 on account of Muharram. Other key exchange holidays later this year include Ganesh Chaturthi (14 September), Gandhi Jayanti (2 October), Dussehra (20 October), Diwali Balipratipada (10 November), Guru Nanak Jayanti (24 November) and Christmas (25 December).

Investors planning trades, fund transfers, settlement obligations or expiry-related positions are advised to account for the one-day pause in market activity this Thursday.
