Stock Market Holiday: NSE, BSE To Remain Open On 28 August For Raksha Bandhan

The NSE and BSE will remain open for trading on Friday despite Raksha Bandhan. The next stock market holiday is on 14 September for Ganesh Chaturthi, followed by holidays for Dussehra, Diwali-Balipratipada, Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti and Christmas.
Investors looking at the stock market holiday calendar may be wondering whether trading will be suspended on Friday, 28 August, for Raksha Bandhan. The answer is no. Both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain open for trading on that day.
The official 2026 trading holiday list does not include 28 August as a market holiday. The NSE's calendar also shows that its next trading holiday is on 14 September for Ganesh Chaturthi.
Trading will therefore continue across the regular market segments on 28 August. Investors will be able to trade as usual instead of having to wait until the next trading session.
MCX To Remain Operational On Raksha Bandhan
The commodity market will also remain open for trading on Raksha Bandhan. Therefore, participants in the equity and commodity markets can continue trading on Friday as per the normal schedule.
Next Stock Market Holidays In 2026
There are six scheduled trading holidays left in 2026 after Raksha Bandhan.
The next market holiday will be on 14 September for Ganesh Chaturthi. The exchanges will then remain closed on 2 October for Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and 20 October for Dussehra.
November will have two market holidays. Trading will be suspended on 10 November for Diwali-Balipratipada and on 24 November for Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev.
The final stock market holiday of 2026 will be on 25 December for Christmas.
Investors should also note that some festivals fall on weekends and therefore do not result in an additional weekday trading holiday. The official exchange calendars list 15 August, for example, as a Saturday holiday.
