Pre-Market 30 July 2026: Sensex Surges 889 Points; GIFT Nifty Holds Above 24,200

Indian benchmark indices closed sharply higher on Wednesday. The Sensex rose 889 points to 77,654.60 and the Nifty 50 advanced 265 points to 24,250.20. GIFT Nifty was trading around 24,200 as markets digested the Fed decision and tracked overnight global cues.

Indian shares climbed sharply on Wednesday, reversing part of the recent weakness. Better-than-expected industrial production data supported buying across sectors despite higher crude oil prices and fresh developments in the Middle East.

The Sensex ended at 77,654.60, up 889 points. The Nifty 50 added 265 points to close at 24,250.20.

Strong buying returned across sectors after data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) showed India's Index of Industrial Production (IIP) grew 7.3% year-on-year in June, the fastest pace in six months.

The Nifty Midcap 100 advanced 0.82%, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 rose 1.48%.

The rally added nearly ₹4 lakh crore to investor wealth, taking the total market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies above ₹483 lakh crore.

Among Sensex constituents, HDFC Bank, Infosys and Bharti Airtel contributed the most to the day's advance.

The rupee strengthened by 17 paise to 95.65 against the US dollar, according to provisional data. At the same time, Brent crude traded near $88 a barrel after rising about 4%.

The US Federal Reserve kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.50%-3.75%, a move that matched market expectations. However, the decision was not unanimous, with three policymakers backing a 25-basis-point rate hike.

Wall Street reacted negatively after the announcement. The Dow Jones fell 1,153 points, while the 30-year US Treasury yield climbed to its highest level since 2007 as investors reassessed the outlook for inflation and interest rates.

At the market close on 29 July:

  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 1153.18 points to 51,594.14.
  • The S&P 500 closed at 7,316.15, down 112.63 points.
  • The Nasdaq Index closed at 24,442.94, down 433.97 points.

In Europe, the FTSE 100 ended at 10,908.41, up 0.34%, while France's CAC 40 closed at 8,408.27, down 0.60%.

In Asia, the trend was mixed as well. Hong Kong's Hang Seng climbed to 25,807.92, while Japan's Nikkei 225 dropped to 61,434.19.

On 30 July at 8:09 am, GIFT Nifty was trading at 24,226.50, down 76.50 points. The contract is trading close to Wednesday's Nifty close, indicating a largely flat opening for the domestic market.

The 24,100-24,150 zone, which also coincides with the 20-day SMA, is expected to act as immediate support for the Nifty.

As long as the index stays above this range, the next upside levels are seen around 24,400-24,500. A break below 24,100 could weaken the current trend and trigger profit booking.

The biggest event for global markets is the US Federal Reserve's policy decision. Markets will also react to the Federal Reserve's assessment of inflation, economic growth and the outlook for interest rates.

Corporate earnings will continue to influence stock-specific action both in India and overseas.

Developments in West Asia also remain important after the US military said it carried out joint strikes with Saudi Arabia in Iraq against Iran-aligned militant groups. Market participants will also keep an eye on crude oil prices following their recent rise.
