Pre-Market 26 August 2026: GIFT Nifty, Key Global Cues In Focus Today
GIFT Nifty signals a positive opening as global cues, crude and Nvidia earnings remain in focus.

Indian markets may open higher as GIFT Nifty signals gains. Global markets, crude oil, Middle East developments and Nvidia’s earnings remain key factors influencing investor sentiment today.

Indian equities recovered on Tuesday, with the Nifty 50 rising after two sessions of losses. The market is likely to begin Wednesday's session on a positive note.

The BSE Sensex gained 286.98 points, or 0.37%, to close at 77,656.09, while the Nifty 50 rose 115.50 points, or 0.48%, to settle at 24,334.55. The Nifty moved sharply during the session as traders adjusted positions around the monthly derivatives expiry.

The rupee also found some support as crude prices fell. It closed at ₹95.41 against the US dollar. Brent crude slipped more than 3% to around $89.20 a barrel during the session.

Foreign investors bought Indian equities worth ₹1,182 crore on Monday. Investors are also assessing the impact of a potentially weak monsoon, with rainfall expected to finish the season below the long-term average.

US stocks ended higher on Tuesday as technology shares recovered ahead of Nvidia's results. The Dow Jones index rose 160.24 points to close at 53,577.40, while the S&P 500 was at 7,677.28, up 24.42 points. The Nasdaq index added 171.11 points to finish at 26,151.30.

European markets ended mixed. The FTSE 100 rose 0.29% to 10,886.16, while the CAC 40 fell 0.16% to 8,439.20. The broader European market was supported by easing oil prices and a calmer bond-market backdrop.

Asian markets also closed mixed on Tuesday. The Nikkei 225 gained 0.50% to 65,856.43, while the Hang Seng Index slipped 0.02% to 25,511.10.

On 26 August at 7:24 am, GIFT Nifty was trading at 24,563.50, up 83.50 points, pointing to a positive opening for Indian equities on Wednesday.

The 24,200-24,220 zone remains the immediate hurdle for the Nifty 50. A decisive move above 24,220 could open the way towards 24,300, according to the technical outlook provided.

On the downside, 24,080 is the key support. A sustained break below this level could take the index towards 24,000-23,980. The trading bias remains bearish below 24,220.

Investors should closely monitor the movement in GIFT Nifty after the market opens, as well as crude oil prices and developments in the Middle East, which could quickly affect risk sentiment. Nvidia’s earnings will be important for global technology stocks and may influence Indian IT shares.
